We could do the same. We just need to put £50,000 ($100,000) into a kitty, and take it from there. We could still keep John Williams. The music to Jaws and Star Wars is still among the most recognised movie soundtrack music in the workd, so there would be no point in getting rid of him.
I can be the treasurer - and team captain.

No worries. I'll be in charge of media relations ... and sort that bunch of muppets out.

Ferguson can be the manager once Mark Hughes retires.

Slightly related, the new MLS team in Seattle is going to allow fans to join a supporters club for $100, and then every 4 years they get to vote on whether or not to keep the general manager. (In US sports, the GM is in charge of attendance and player acquisition and contracts. In rich organizations like you have in baseball and gridiron, they would tend to have vice-presidents that run the day to day operations of those departments and who report to the GM. In MLS, I dunno.)

superdave - In the MLS, the GM's make all decisions except for MAJOR $$$$$ decisions needed to be made by the owner. Think of the owner as the CEO and the GM as the president for a real world model. The pres. does the day to day and most of the long term planning.
As for buying the team, I would love to. When I win the lottery, I'll be the first there.

I bought into MyFootballClub a couple of weeks ago. Honestly I expect it to be a disaster that doesn't work, but I was curious enough about the process they're attempting that I wanted to see it play out.

So far just access to the web forums, but eventually we'll be voting on the decisions for the club.
Like I said I don't expect much to work, but I'm curious about the process.

You're not taking this at all seriously, though, are you?
I mean, you haven't even got Ebbsfleet down under your supported teams.
Tut, tut - naughty, naughty. ;)

My Dad is/was a Leeds fan.
Once, in 2000/01, we went to White Hart Lane to see Spurs against Leeds. My uncle had procured the tickets from an associate who had two Spurs season tickets.
We had to watch the match, pretending to be Spurs fans, and I felt a wall of shame collapse on top of me. Leeds won the match 2-1. We had to pretend to be upset that Spurs had lost.
The fans sounded like the whiney orcs from Lord of the Rings, that have cockney accents. The phrase, "Cam on yew Sperz," just grated on me like a dentist's drill.
As we were leaving Shite Hart Lane, some disappointed fans said things like, "dant warry, leds - Arsnuw lost tew!"
From that moment I hated that club with all my being, as a northerner, and as a football fan. Having to pretend to be one of them accentuated the level of disgust and anger beneath my skin. I hated the ground. I hated the fans. I hated the players. I hated the chants. I hated the food. I hated the journey to the ground. I hated London. I hated the cockney accent. I hated the badge, and since going to the match, every Spurs supporter I have met, bar one (but he supported Rangers more), has been a complete-and-utter c0ck.
So it must come as no surprise that I practically creamed me sen when Jansen and Cole punished them for being soak wrap in 2002. I still have the newspaper from the day after the Worthington Cup Final.

To be honest I can't stand Spurs either. I've been there about 4 times and it's a dump, but you wouldn't think that talking to their fans. They're still convinced they're one of the ooooold big 5, so arrogant.
And they do sound like the Orcs, stown ve crows.
Anyway, yeah, let's buy our club ;)

Let me just state for the record that BlackburnRover and Revelian are not the same poster, even though we have the same attitude towards Spurs, Rovers and England.
