Does anyone here use Skype for calls? I heard it's free if someone has the same software on their pc, but wanted to know if anyone has been charged before i try this out.

Sounds interesting and i know it's been out for a few years.

Via computer, Skype calls between Skype users are completely free of charge. No fees at all.

You can upgrade for a modest annual fee if you want to make calls to regular phone lines or want to receive calls to an assigned Skype telephone number.

Aside from my AT&T Wireless account (an iPhone of course!), I use Skype exclusively for my home phone service. I have unlimited in and out calls with voice mail. I use Netgear's SPH200D (http://www.netgear.com/Products/CommunicationsVoIP/Skype/SPH200D.aspx) cordless phone for regular calls and use Skype with my Mac for free video calls to family 400 miles away. It's dirt cheap and the voice quality and reliability have been excellent.

So again, it's free for Skype to Skype calls. For a small cost, you can use it as a regular phone service. Much cheaper than POTS or other VOIP services.

I've used Skype for several years- no problems or complaints, never been charged anything. Great for talking to people on other continents.

Thanks for the comments...

So, how do you setup someone to talk too? Do you get assigned a number or ID. Is it similar to MSN to add a contact? Maybe i will try it out this weekend.

For free video or audio calls between Skype users, you download the software and set up an account, user name, and password. You can search the user directory for contacts or just add a known user to your contact list. Obviously, the other person you're wanting to talk to needs to have Skype installed and have their own user name. It's works very much like any common chat client. In fact, Skype supports chat if you don't want to audio or video. Of course, you'll need a mic for audio calls and a webcam for video.

Excellent...essentially, it's a chat client with better quality audio then MSN. Hope the video quality is better then MSN.

Thanks guys...*REP*
