I know many of you consider the WC as something holy. But please keep an open mind for new ideas. Does it make sense to call a team that wins a four-week tournament “World champions” for the next four years?
Do we really need to bring 32 teams to one place to decide which is the best national team in the world. Here is my proposal: it should be held annually. There would be four groups of four teams. One group would be European, one African, one for Asia/Oceania and one four the Americas. The teams would play each other home and away. The top three teams from Europe and the Americas plus the winners of the African and Asia/Australia groups would join them n the QF, which would be played over two legs as well as the semis. The final would one game. The teams that finish last in their continental groups last would go into a play-off with winner of their continents 2. Division.

I'm still interested in scrapping clubs altogether and have everyone play full-time for their national teams.
Well, it would be better than the previous proposal.

1) The thread title is over the top. "Fraud" is a pretty strong word.
2) I think the WC would lose some (a lot?) of its value if it's held every year. Part of what makes it so great is having to wait.
3) Shortening the qualification cycle is good for the big clubs (who are getting more and more power), but bad for the national associations who count on long qualification campaigns to raise money
4) I think every 2 years would be a good compromise. FIFA sort-of proposed this a while back and it got shot down. My guess is that UEFA doesn't want to give up the money from the European Championships, but presumably a compromise where every other WC goes to Europe would solve this (and reflect that Europe is the most lucrative market with the most teams in the mix every year).

There was a bear and a rabbit taking a dump in the forest. The bear turned to the rabbit and asked him if he ever had problems with sh$t sticking to his fur.
The rabbit replied no; so the bear wiped his ass with the rabbit.

let's just scrap teams altogether and make it one-on-one.

It makes much more sense than calling the winners of the Super Bowl, World Series, and NBA Finals "World Champions".
