This isn't offically the new River Plate-Mercado de Pases thread for 2008. I'll let Loco start that one. But, I wanted to start this thread to see who everyone would like to see come and play for River in 2008. I know some of the usual names like Cavenaghi, D'Alessandro, Aimar, and so on will be mentioned, but can we really expect one of them to return?? With Aguiliar at the helm, I'd say it's doubtful. Here are three players I wouldn't mind seeing on the pitch for River in 2008.
Richard Porta- I know some of you will probably say "Who the fock is that?" Well I'll tell you since I've been following him. He currently plays in Uruguay for our little brother club "River Plate". He's 24 years old, plays up front, and has scored something like 17 goals in 12 games. He was born in Australia, but I believe he has Uruguayan blood in him. If Falcao departs in January, I say we go for him. He could add some depth to the club.
Alvaro Pereira- This guy impresses me more and more everytime I watch him play for Argentinos Juniors. He's left footed, is pretty accurate with crosses, and scores every so often. I believe he is Argentinos Juniors leading scorer with 6 this Apertura. Not bad for a midfielder. If Belluschi departs, we could slot him on the left side.
Humberto Mendoza- I'm sure crzdcolombian will approve of this one.:D He currently plays in Colombia for Atletico Nacional. I believe River was linked with him before the start of the Apertura, but Passarella decided to go for Sanchez instead. I think if we brought him in, he would pair up nicely with Sanchez in the back. He's tall(6 ft 3), young at 23 years of age, and can head the ball like a motha. I'm sure crzdcolombian can give us more info on, but I like what I've seen so far of him.
Well those are the first three that come to mind for me. I'm sure there will be more as the end of the year gets closer. What about everyone else?? Who would you like to see play for River in 2008??

haha I like
Daryo Moreno of Caldas who is 22 played for our 2005 sub 20. Striker and had 15 goals this season with Once Caldas and was the top scorer this season and 3 ago as well. Good cover as I see River being dumb and selling Falcao in the Winter
David Ospina - 19 yr old keeper of Nacional, youngest keeper ever to win the colombain league and least beat keeper last season. Been starter for our biggest team since he was 17
Mendoza - ........ I was just glad river wanted another colombain but he has been injured for at least a month not too sure whats wrong with him. He is amazing at headers and good defender tho he is a little slow and has a short fuze..... but what I seen from our defense we really need new defenders but at 2 million which i think Nacional wanted for him think its a rip off (not like he is even a NT player)

Yeah I've heard about Moreno. Looks like a pretty decent player. If Falcao departs, I wouldn't mind seeing another Colombiano up front for River. As for Mendoza, I think we need a player who is tough and has a short fuse. The losses to Tigre and San Martin along with the draw gainst Gimnasia de Jujuy killed us this Apertura. Not blaming it solely on the defense, but at times it looked very lethargic.

Humberto Mendoza has improved by leaps and bounds. He also has powerful shot. He has taken several free kick from quite some distance and scored. THis will be a great signing for River if it does happen.
Dayro Moreno is really good. He is more agile and technical player than Falcao. His only downfall is his love for the nightlife.

Here is another player I'd like to see wear "La Banda" for River in 2008. It would be very difficult seeing that he's probably going to be the most sought after player from Chile once their season is done, but the fact we have "Nino Maravilla" might entice him.
Carlos Villanueva- He currently plays for Audax Italiano in Chile and is a left footed playmaker. The guy has pretty much put Audax on his back and taken them to the top of the standings. He already has experience playing in the Copa Libertadores from earlier this year, so maybe a move to a bigger club like River might raise his game a bit. The most amazing statistic about him, is that he leads the Torneo with 17 goals in 20 games. Imagine Villanueva and "Nino Maravilla" on the field together at River?? It would be pretty scary.

I think Audax is asking for anywhere between $5-7 million for him. That's why I think it would be a longshot to land him. Aguiliar would use the money from sales of Belluschi, Falcao, Ruben, and Fernandez elsewhere. Most likely a percentage of ownership to a local eatery like "La Brigada" in Buenos Aires so he can eat himself to death.:p

why do people want Ruben he fing sucks !!! he hasnt scored like all season i think..... i swear these Euros dont even care any more tehy are like omg he is argie, omg he is under 22, omg he plays for river/boca and omg he the next MEssi !!! haha, how much u selling him 20 mill?
I think villanueva is an amazing player and well worth the 5 million he is young and all but if we just buy him for 1/2 seasons then f-ck that, if Augilar is serious about winning tournies and bringing River back to where it use to be and keeping players like Falcao and Bellushi then I say buy him.

What about bringing Mareque back? River needs a left back and I thought that Mareque played pretty well for Independiente in stretches this season. Anyone know the terms of his loan at Independiente?

We are in desperate need of a good LB after letting both of the... decent ones we had (Mareque and Dominguez) go at the same time. Unfortunately I can't really think of any player in Argentina or South America who we could bring in that role, and I don't know if Aguilar will have the guts to bring back Mareque so soon after selling him.

Palmeiras is most likely going to sign him...the team that beat Flu yesterday:D

Mengão86: Is the deal with Villanueva and Palmeiras almost done or are they just showing their interest? I know Valdivia will probably leave Verdao in 2008, Caio also gets a lot of interest so there's a chance he might leave as well. Villanueva will be an excellent signing for both Palmeiras and River Plate.
As for other River Plate signings, I think you need a top notch striker next to Falcao, who I think will leave River Plate next summer. Maybe Dario Cvitanich can fill up the spot but I doubt it, hopefully some players who aren't getting playing time in Europe will be available?
As for Augusto Fernandez probably leaving, I think you should get Eduardo Salvio from Lanus. This guy is going to be big within years to come. He can play on both wings and if necessary as a second striker.
I think he will hit the jackpot for River if you get him.
And finally you need 1 or 2 defenders, Jonathan Bottinelli is a good option who can play as a leftback if necessary but I doubt it he will join River Plate instead of going to Europe. Thiago Silva from Fluminense and/or Betao from Corinthians should be taking into consideration as well.

Palmeiras has only showed interest thus far, but I am sure that they are going to make a strong move after the season is over.
Thiago Silva and Betão to River? I doubt that such a move would take place. It is very rare to see Brazilians on 1st division sides going to Argentina.

I know but I'm only giving possible options here, I don't know much about the other South-American leagues so I have to name players from the Argentinian or the Brazilian league. Although it's in the line of expectations that they will move to Europe.
Betao contract at Corinthians is running out within 5 a 6 weeks(31/12) and Corinthians are almost on the verge to relegate to the Serie B. If it wasn't for Felipe they would have relegate a long time ago. Now they have to win the next two games and if not they have to hope for the best which means Goias or Parana doesn't win their 2 games.
As for Thiago Silva, his contract is running out at 31 December of next year. Dinamo Moscow seems to have 50% of his transfer rights but with only one year left, he can't be that expensive.
Cavenaghi...GOL
21 Nov 2007, 09:22 AM
I'd love to see Cavenaghi come back, even on loan, although that isn't at all likely.
D'Alessandro returning would be another massive boost although again i think it isn't likely.
Depending on who leaves, i'd like to see Osmar Ferreyra, Matias Lequi and possibly a forward. Of course if Ferrari, Fernandez, Belluschi and others leave then replacements will be needed BUT rather than waste money on another Ruben etc. the new coach should look at the youth squads first.
