since when did english people start coming to live in L.A?? i thought l.a was full of mexicans but not ex english pats!
what is going to happen when these 2 teams face off? mexicans were picking on the small argentinian contingent that was there at the chivas vs riverplate friendly at the coliseum, but knowing the brits and how they love to fight this could get ugly!

Technically, the huge ex-pat Brit population isn't based in Los Angeles - but in nearby Santa Monica.
Lots of pubs - Brit "food" and swearing at the telly games brought over on the satelite signal. Mind you, not only Brits, but quite a few Irish, too.
It's funny when the pub gets so successful that they have to cater to local tastes and turn the channel to ESPN, which doesn't show much soccer at all.
Man U and Club America?
I don't care at all about the teams, but if it was free, I'd go to watch the stands.

femfa what is the estimate on the number of brits around the l.a area?
doesn't surprise me knowing that britain gets 1 sunny day a year/it is cold and rainy/the women are ugly and have yellow teeth.
solution: come to california where the sun is shining and the girls are pretty!

The real question is will anybody show up at this match? I don't read much about this one, unlike the other three matches Man U are scheduled to play.

Considering they've already sold over 60K tickets for the match, and the fact that Latino crowds are famous here for buying tickets at the last minute, I'd say someone will be there.

Red Devil boss Sir Alex Ferguson is still pissed about the tonking Martin O'Neill's side gave him in the Ryan Giggs testimonial a couple of seasons ago
the suggestion that fergie is "still pissed" because Man U lost a friendly game to celtic a while ago.
With a huge ex-pat English population in the Los Angeles area, the atmosphere at this match will surely be the hottest and the most frightening to first-time fans of a soccer match. Expect loads of singing, chanting and plenty of verbals between the two sets of supporters with the occasional punch-up. It won't be for the faint hearted, that's for sure.
The fact that the writer actually thinks that the english community of L.A. are all gonna turn out to support Man U and clash with the mexicans..
Talk about clueless...lol

I've heard from 50,000 to 100,000 and even 300,000.
Here's a little expat excerpt. I presume the guy is complaining about the food - cod is apparently sacrilege or something.

I actually wonder if the Brits will turn out for Man U. The ones I know complain a lot in the pubs about almost everything here. They turn up their noses at our soccer and don't go to any matches. I could very well see them saying Club America isn't worth paying to see the match and just staying planted on their stools to order another "pint".

We don't need an excuse to order another pint.
I like the part in the article where us says,
'Santa Monica is a city of around 100,000 people sandwiched between Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean.
I have been here since 1994, I live about 1-½ miles from the beach, and wish I could spend more time there, it’s just like Cleethorpes, but with a little more sun'
A LITTLE MORE SUN???????
If it has any sun at all it's clearly nothing like Cleethorpes where, like most of the North-East, the babies are born standing at an angle of 45% to allow for the wind and the rain.

Swearing is one of the few things people from these islands do well.
In the middle ages the English used to be known by the French as 'Le Goddon', literally, 'the god damns' because of our habit of swearing. We are now often referred to as 'Le f u c k-offs' there - can't imagine why...
Mind you, anyone who irritates the French can't be all bad.

Hopefully, the Mexican fans will show the Man Utd that they stepped into their territory!

Believe me, I grew up in California, and I don't think a group of Mexicans is going to intimidate the ex-Pats in attendance one bit.
