I know that the Battery have blackbaud stadium but I was wondering if any other A-League, D3, or PDL teams had their own soccer specific stadiums. I don't think any other A-League teams do but I'm just trying to make sure. If anyone knows of any other teams that do post them. thanks

The Des Moines Menace of the PDL are building a SSS to open next season. It will start with 6000 seats and 20 suites, but will be expandable.

Hampton Roads has the SportsPlex but I don't know any details about it.

Pittsburgh has been wanting to build one for about 4 years now and can't find any suitable place to put it.

Rochester's soccer only stadium plans seem kaput.

Atlanta has the land purchused but no funding in place to build the stadium (I think).

Atlanta has the land and the funding (according to team officials) and have been waiting for zoning and other issues to be cleared up so that construction can begin. I believe it is scheduled to begin later this year or early next but will not be ready until the 2004 season. It's a training center with several fields a small stadium, similar in size to Blackbaud, an indoor center and I beleive a restaurant. I heard some time ago that the plan was to have memberships available to the public.

I saw the Indiania v. Rochester game last night and it looked like Indiana had a SSS. Although it looked like it may have been used for Football too. Kuntz Stadium I think it was. Also Millwakee has a soccer complex I think.

Memphis has a soccer only stadium, the whole complex is quite nice, 16 lighted fields plus a 5000 seat staduim as well. The most they had so far was 3500 and that was the W-League rather than PDL, so we don't know what it looks like full of people.

Western Mass' Lusitano Stadium is soccer-specific and a great place to play or watch a game. They have fans right on top of the action, they are into the game. There is a bar down one sideline as well. It seems like a lot of the community comes out for the games, I think they get around 2,000 a game, though I'm not sure.
They are working on creating a complex. I'm not sure what they have right now.

the picture of Mike Rose Soccer Complex is a little deceiving - it appears it was downsized since that drawing. There are no seats on the left side of the stadium and the building on 'this end' of the stadium is not there.

Actually, Des Moines drew 4,400 fans on average this past season, leading the PDL for the third straight year. They also set a single game attendance record of over 6,300 fans for one match(in fact, they drew over 6,000 fans twice). It truely was a sight to see (and a great sign for soccer in the Midwest) standing room only for a team that only 5 years ago drew about 400 people per match.
Unfortuneatly, the team lost in the conference playoffs after finishing the regular season undefeated. at any rate, I know they will continue to be successful in the upcoming seasons both on the field and in attendance. The new stadium will prove to be a great boost for the sport.

FYI - The Menace website refers to the new stadium as one of only 4 SSS in the states.

I must agree, that the Des Moines organization has impressed us all. I just hope that they are not the mid-west organization that is planning on fielding a A-League team next year (the mysterious midwest team that was spoken of in the article regarding Syracuse's A-League Plans)..... we all saw what happened to Calgary when an organizaton decides to move too quickly. Although this might not apply to Des Moines, as your team has been around long enough to have devoted fans who will not abandon the team if you have a disappointing first season in the A-League.

Can't say that the fans have abandoned the Storm 9having missed 10 minutes of action this year), but the weather has been living up to team's nickname. Not sure who told the league office that games in May were a good idea - they had to get the youth team to shovel snow off the pitch before the game 3 times, average game time temp around 55 (for the season) I'd guess and 4 dates without some form of precipitation have kept the casual supporter away. Pitch/stadium and product on it have not helped bring in the people, but has been looking promising for next year as our "kids" get some playing time under their belt.
