They hate MLS so much that the game this weekend which, I believe, was supposed to be tape-delayed at 2 a.m., will be shown live at 10 p.m. on ESPN2.

ESPN hates MLS.

All is right with the world!

:)

Don't knock my soccer universe off its axis by providing any evidence contrary to that.

Just when all these Americans were learing Spanish via the telecasts, too!

I fear for the future of bilingualism.

What happened to the originally scheduled programming to instigate such an out-of-character move by ESPN?

No clue because I have no idea what was on. But I'm sure there will be people around to tell us what a bad thing this is.

I wonder if it's possible to infer anything from this about the mysterious 2003 MLS ratings? Probably not, but one can always be optimistic.

yes, ESPN hates MLS, thats why they show their games live at 4 almost every Saturday. ESPN really hates MLS to actually air the game at 10:00 (Live) then 2 AM(taped delay). I can so feel the hatred from ESPN.

Note the sarcasim. Without ESPN, MLS wouldn't be as big, so SHUT THE HELL UP. God, you people complain about the stupidest things.

I also wonder if MLS and/or the cable and satellite networks track the purchase statistics of the MLS shootout package?

I wonder if that figures in what is shown and when. I wonder what those figures look like over the past few years.

no SH|T. you should be glad they are actually showing any MLS whatsoever. they could be showing bowling, golf, poker, or even diving [which i saw after a game this weekend].

I would like to personally thank the programmers for showing soccer, especially american, NOT on tape-delay. tape delayed games are junk!!!!

If ESPN really wants to do things correctly they would force San Jose to change the kickoff to 4 PM local time so those of us on the East Coast can watch it live at 7 and still go out to a nice restaurant for dinner afterwards.

ESPN hates not only MLS, they hate soccer and soccer fans. Inconsiderate bastards.

ESPN makes MLS pay to be on, too. Cheap, inconsiderate bastards.

Thx,

Jay!

And yet everything else that's a no-brainer, but which works to the disadvantage of soccer fans, they get ripped for.

You can't have it both ways, folks.

ESPN must think soccer is slow paced to show poker, bowling, and diving. AND POKER AIN'T EVEN A SPORT WHAT THE HELL!!!!! THE tape delays ruin the point of watching the games. I hate espn so much now than ever.

Baseball players aren't getting paid enough again maybe?

Somebody must have heard that the MLS League Max is to close to the MLB league minimum...

God forbid, a commercial entity tries to maximize profit...

Say, what ever happened to MLS games on ESPN? I could understand if they said MLS only gets good enough ratings to get on ESPN2, but they also sell them time on ABC. ESPN doesn't have the time to sell?

I wouldn't be surprised if there actually was less available time on ESPN, though I don't have any hard numbers to back that up.

At the very least, there's less consistent time available. ESPN2 guaranteed them a (fairly) regular time slot.

As for ABC, it's only two games a year.
