I recently heard from someone (I don't remember who) that Vodaphone had either gone out of business, or changed it's name to Globalstar. Does anyone here know about that? Thought I'd ask.

It's unlikely they are going out of business. They are partners of Verizon Wireless here in the states, and I believe they are the biggest wireless phone network in Europe themselves. It's possible there is a name change in the works, maybe for the parent company, but it wouldn't make sense to change the name with the brand recognition they've invested in the past few years with their various kit sponsporships they have - (ie. Manchester United, England's National Cricket Team, etc.) - and the other advertisement space they've bought - nice BIG animated vidscreen at Picadilly Circus, etc.

Yeah, Vodafoneis a massive company. If they went out of business, it would be a disaster of Enron proportions and you would definitely hear about it. And I agree w/ Motterman, they advertise way too much around the world to just up and change their name. I think right now the parent company name of Vodafone is Vodafone, w/ Verizon Wireless et al under that. Perhaps it will just be Vodafone, member of the Globalstar network.

Vodaphone sponsor the England cricket team as well. Go Anderson and Flintoff (Lancashire players). Former Captain of England Mike Atherton is United supporter.

Vodaphone havent gone out of business.
