So I just get a call from my buddy who did a HS state tournement game in CT. NW Catholic v Wheeler. He said Wheeler was totally out classed, the coach was consistantly complaining from the first minute and his kids were pretty unruly and disrespectful. He yellow cards a kid for a bad foul in the first half. 3-0 at half NWC. Second half a Wheeler player pushes a NWC player out of bounds. kid falls, gets up and says no harm no foul to the Wheeler kid who replies, F U! My buddy calls him over, tells him to watch his language and cards him,,,,kid walks two steps turns and say Ref F U too! My buddy tosses him. As the teams are leaving the field, the kid that was carded in the first half says hey ref, he looks over and the kid flips him the bird. He calls the kid over, who just keeps walking to the sideline to shake hands. he tells the coach to get his player over and the coach says leave it alone. He finally gets him over and he gives the kid a red card. The coaches reply? they are both seniors, what can you do?

This is just unreal. How can a coach be like that. His players are a reflection on him, he has no class and neither does his kids. Ha ha, I told the Ref to F off at my last HS game ever,,,,wow, what a great way to end a career!

this situation is really too bad. as a coach who's team has been out-classed on the field many times i know the frustrations that both players, coaches, and fans feel. but despite being beaten in the game, i try to teach my boys the importance of maintaining good sportsmanship and a positive attitude regardless of the situation. however, i have been embarrased when a player takes it too far and loses their cool. the key is to teach them how they can correct their behavior and make them apologize for getting heated. after all, we're teaching more than just the game of soccer here. and if our young men can transfer what they've learned about sportsmanship off the field, then we consider that a win.

I agree a red card their last game of their senior year for dropping the F-bomb, or other equally disrespectful activities is totally uncalled for and an embarrassment to all involved. I can think of a situation though where a red card the last game is just crazy. In Illinois, at the State Championship, after a team scores the winning goal in overtime, a player removes their shirt in excitement while celebrating and the center ref runs over to that young man and cards him! Ok, now that's just plain silly. The crowd is going wild, players are jumping up and down, and a young man removes his shirt---THE HORROR! @@ This is a true story, only two guys did it and they were both carded--they were both seniors.

that is just insane....
Update on the story, the CIAC called my budy last night and want him to submit his game report asap, appearently the AD of NWC called to complain about the other school and they are going to do an investigation.
I think it would be nice if they could carry the Red over to other sports so if those guys played basketball or baseball they would have to sit out a game or two

When I was a senior in high school, my team was in the sectional finals. By chance one of the AR's was the former head coach of our school that had been fired a year earlier. Our team team was playing one of the top rated teams in the state; one that had beat us in the regular season. We played our best game of the seaosn and should have won the match. We happened to have 3 goals called back including 1 in sudden death overtime by the former coach. The other team eventually won the match 1-0. After the game, a few of our players had some harsh words for that AR and the head official. Same thing, two seniors got red cards and said the same thing" What can you do I am a senior" A few days later they were called to meet with the AD and principal. They each were informed they were suspended from school for 1 day. They appealed and got it down to a 3 hour detention since that was closer to the time a match takes.

It seemed fair because even though official may have been in the wrong, the players deserved some discpline for their actions otherwise it sends the wrong message.

the AR should never have put himself in that position. I coached HS for 5 years then went on to Ref for another 3. In those 3 years I made sure I never did a game that involved the HS i coached at. In CT the refs have that ability thru their website to let the scheduler know what schools they will not ref games for. you are right the players, whether the callls were right or wrong, should not have gotten out of line and deserved what they got

Perfect. They may be done with soccer at that point, but they are not yet out of school.

I said as much to a couple of seniors on my team this fall, who joked about doing something stupid to get a red card their last game. Reminded them that even though the soccer season was over, the school year wasn't and there would definitely be consequences if they pulled some kind of a stunt.

I kind of doubt they would have done anything anyway, but they most definitely took the hint and nothing happened.

These boys hadn't planned on taking off their shirts, as it happened in the heat of the moment at the CONCLUSION of a state championship game which ended as a golden goal, or sudden victory/death what ever you want to call it. The red cards were uncalled for. The boys were with their team celebrating after the goal and the center chased after them in the center of the celebration to issue the red cards. To me that's an example of the worst type of soccer GOD referee I've ever seen.
