Will Red Bull rebranded Red Bull New Jersey?
I think it should and promote the rivary between New York and New Jersey.

I think if they are going to be honest with themselves and their fans they would change the name, but I think the Red Bull company knows how much $$ the New York name can make them.

I think this is a complication for establishing a NYC team. Red Bull is not going to like being the nets to the knicks, the devils to the rangers. Of course, I realize the jersey teams have been more successful, but the rangers and knicks still have a marketing cache that the jersey teams lack.
How this plays out I don't know... does it result in a nyc team not happening, or red bull dropping out of the league? but I really don't think that the red bull corporation not being the nyc team.

I honestly think they will both carry the NY name.

So do I, but red bull won't be the "New York" team if there is a new york city team. I say this from the perspective of marketing, I'm not opining on the metaphysical question of what does "new york" really mean, a city, state, or region.

Gotcha,I agree they wont be viewed as a NY team. All things being equal they should change to RBNJ.

But they won't. It won't help their brand.

Yes it comes down to $$. But we will all know who the real New York team is.

The point is that I think this issue will stand in the way of NYC getting a team. Red Bull won't like it, and I think they will have influence with MLS to not do it.

I really dont think it will,Garber has stated many times that they want the second team. I think whats better for the league will trump any issues that Red Bull has. Logically,a successful franchise in NY will make a ton of money for the league,in the end thats all that matters.

They will never change it to Red Bull New Jersey. Who would buy into
that product?
I hope they stay NYRB so when we get a real NYC team, we can
chant that we all know they are really from New Jersey.

Well from what I remember Red Bull owns the rights to a second NY team until 2010.

If Poplar Point falls through, will D.C. United be rebranded Maryland United?

Ridicolous !!! The most important city in the world hasn't a true team in the most important sport in the world. It is a shame !!!
Where is Wilpon ?
When will be there a team of NEW YORK CITY in MLS ?
Now also in Italy the MLS is known, but everyone that loves soccer doesn't realize because NEW YORK CITY hasn't a team and a stadium ( in Queens for example ). It is inutily to speak of jersey.......
I think that to put a team in NYC is rightly for MLS and american soccer.
My question is one :after Seattle ( 2009 ) and probably Philly (2010 ) , is there a real possibility to see a NYC team in 2011 ?

By your definition, the "most important city in the world" hasn't had a true team in the most important sport in the United States in over 20 years. Yet, life has gone on.
I think that to put a team in NYC is rightly for MLS and american soccer.

There is a possiblity to see a 2nd New York region team in 2011, yes. Easier said than done though.

I agree my friend, there has to be a team IN the biggest market. What players would not want to live in NYC?
P.S- I trace my familys roots back to Naples and Messina so I have been pulling for Napoli this season :D

The "market" includes Northern New Jersey, much of New York State, and parts of Connecticut.
