Greetings,

I am in the process of moving to Tampa for a new job, and while I missed the Mutiny, I am curious to know what the supporters' scene is in the city. Are there any groups or just fans that get together to watch matches somewhere in town? Any organized USMNT support? Pubs that show world-matches?

Any info would help. While I don't live in disdain for American football, some kindred soccer-spirits would certainly ease the shock of moving into Gruden-held territory.

Thanks.

I think lots of the fans here still feel like they were kicked in the groin last year and the ache has not yet subsided.

The Mutiny folding has sucked the passion out of a lot of fans.

There are pubs around that show soccer, but you might want to post where you are you moving to? It's a big place down here.

Cheers for the replies. I totally understand some of the aforementioned resentment. Any metaphorical usage of groin-kicking is an effective device when attempting to communicate betrayal. Amen.

As for location, I'm on my way to teach and live around the Memorial Hwy / Hillsborough area. Steve, I'll have to buy a Tampa road atlas, but I appreciate your suggestions. I was going to ask about men's leagues, too, but that might be for another forum.

www.fssl.com - There are local teams that even have ex-Rowdies and ex-Mutiny players.

You're definitely moving into the prime area for some good viewing and participating. The Florida Suncoast Soccer League (link in previous post) is a great source of information.

I moved away from the area to work for a team in NYC so I now have soccer year around, but there are plenty of opportunities in Tampa, if you look around. This board is one of your best resources.

All the best in your new adventure! It's a fun place to live....just be careful of hurricanes. Make sure where you move is not in a Storm Surge area. If you'd like additional information on that, please email me.

I really appreciate the information, thanks again. And I'll definitely retract that bid I put on the houseboat.

Flannigan's Pub, Main Street, Dunedin (across the Bay from Tampa) has a very active Celtic supporters club. They meet to watch every match live (which often means heading down to the pub at 8 a.m. Saturday or Sunday). Matches usually draw about 25 to 30 people - mostly expat Scotsmen, though there's also a handful of Yanks. Standing room only for Ranger games. Cover charge is $12 ($10 for members). But the atmosphere is great.

Sorry, no Leyton Orient supporters clubs in Tampa that I know of.

Welcome to Tampa!!

Thanks SPL. It would take the loyalty of a Scot to make an 8 AM game on Saturday morning. For better or worse, my loyalties lie elsewhere...usually until about noon on weekends. Good to know there's some supporters groups out there, though. Nothing similar for MLS matches? Leicester City?

As for Orient, well, the side has fewer supporters than it does support groups...for depression and feelings of insignificance.
