View Full Version : Moderator Suggestion Thread

Everybody,
I've been appointed as a new moderator to the forum. I've noticed a lot of increased posting traffic and wanted to be around to help organize and shape things. We're usually pretty civil in here, so that part of moderating shouldn't be a problem.
One of my ideas is to start accumulating resources to be posted as stickies up top of the forum. I'm not a huge stickie fan, but I was thinking about a) an internet resource thread with a long listing of resources with a brief description and b) a FAQ forum jump that links to important topics among different threads.
Finally, and this is what I opened this thread for - mainly. I'd like the posters to offer up some suggestions as to what they'd like to see in the forum. Please post suggestions here, and I'll look into turning them into a reality.
:)

I am working on such a forum for medical trannscription because there is never a tidy way to analyze all the useful data, be it links, videos, profiles, surveys that gets generated in such discussions. The subjective bantering is useful, but I would also be interested in how many people support certain ideas and what is the basis for their opinions. People don't seem to realize that there are best practices and organizational rules. Soccer isn't all folklore! This last Saturday. this dictator military coach that my U11 so haD, left him on the bench the whole game. He doesn't run fast enough for her, and when I got to reading, found that playing to win and benching kids is sot social-soccer fare, and by the way, worry about running later. People keep saying, "Well, that's competitive soccer." Not so. It'd be great to get the proper knowledge to people, teach them playing not at the expense of my son's well being. There is much art and culture to the game that goes unnoticed.
So that's my input.

Keep fighting the good fight, Debbie. And, we'd love to hear stories on the forum about your experiences.

Welcome! (Well, you are here wearing a new hat).
As to content suggestions:
1. I don't know the site's policy on links, but between us all we must know a lot of good links. There isn't a lack of sites to google, its almost as if there were too many sites to pick from out there which can be a problem for the uninformed in trying to identify a good source. You would be surprised at the number of people who don't think to look at fifa for the LOTG and the USSF site (ussoccer) for policy items. I really like the explanatory stuff at the BBC and the free coaching materials at the NSCAA site are the best free resource I have found. I mention these sites, because you would think some of these sites are obvious places to go, but I bet a lot of non-coaches wouldn't think of them.
2. We are lucky enough to have coaches posting here with literally decades of experience. There is a gold mine of advice in the past threads in this forum and some in the youth forum on topics that come up over and over. There are some that I have memorized and some that I have cut and pasted and saved for future reference. Ones that come to mind immediately deal with practice plans and drills, plyos, and training to improve speed and quickness. You could use them as answers to "FAQs." You could probably even get these guys to help you draft an answer to any FAQs you might think of that we don't already have an answer for already. Just make the future FAQ a thread topic and ask for advice!
Edit: Opps. I just read sticky no. 2! Well obviously I think that's a good idea even if you thought of it first. :P

Remember, guys. This is still a great option. You can recommend ideas for discussion, organization, or anything else pertaining to the forum. :)

I just read about the 20th poster on the players forum asking for advice on individual training. If we posted a sticky here they probably would not see it (they don't even look at the existing threads on the same topic in that forum), but regulars in this forum are probably getting tired of posting the same reply there over and over.

Yea, I'm not quite sure how to directly address it. It seems to be new posters. It might be better if the regulars over there posted a link to our forum.
I don't have time to look into it now but maybe over the weekend.
