Red Bulls Part Ways with Arena
http://www.goal.com/en-us/

Red Bull New York Managing Director Marc de Grandpre said that it was a mutal decision.

"We've made progress this season, but it is not where we want to be,” said de Grandpre. “We made a promise to our fans to provide the best quality product on the field. Unfortunately, we haven’t achieved that promise to this point. Thus, we’ve come to a mutual agreement to part ways. I want to thank Bruce for his hard work. I am certain that he will have success in his future endeavors.”

“Marc and I discussed the direction of the team and decided mutually that this was the best move for Red Bull New York," said Arena. “I wish the organization the best of luck going forward.”

The LA manager job is vacant.

They'll sign him after a much publicized unsuccessful attempt to get a famous foreigner.

So, how long until Reyna retires?

Tomorrow probably, which is about a year to late.

No F'ing way! I didnt see this coming, even with some people speculating. Let me say first I am not an Arena fan, I always thought his national team run was much more about the talent being better than ever before than it was his coaching, but I think Poppy(looks like Poppy from Seinfeld) got a raw deal here. I know they were his moves, but he only had a year with this group, and I'm sure he expected to at least coach that team into the new stadium. I've never thought coaches should be fired after one season, unless results are incredibly piss-poor, which they werent. I thought RBNY was much improved over last season, even though the results ended up being the same. Seriously, signing Reyna to DP money was probably the nail in his coffin in the end, that was a huge mistake, but if he takes the heat for Reyna shouldnt he get credit for Angel, who for some reason dosent get the credit for being by far the best DP signed this year.

The Red Bulls need to hire a coach and stick with him. This is getting ridiculous.

I think it comes down to him probably wanting to coach in LA.

I think he might want to coach in LA, but I don't think he gets along with Alexi Lalas....

Probably because of the way he whined to the 4th offical about how the dirty player heaps threw an elbow to knock out JPA. Red Bull saw that and was like "What the F is he talking about Heaps was like 3 feet hire than JPA. Lets get rid of this loser." Anyways thats how I like to think it happened.

I see him taking time off and waiting for another coaching job. Arena thinks more highly of himself than anyone else does. Remember him talking about coaching in Europe after he got canned by the US? LA isnt an option for him, and I think Arena thinks of himself as too good to coach a team like Colorado or Columbus or something. He'll probably hit up the ESPN booth until something he likes comes along.

I can't really say I'm surprised. Red Bull has an itchy trigger finger and I never really got the feeling Arena was taking the league seriously. If he doesn't end up in the broadcast booth I'd be surprised. I don't think he'd take the LA job, that'll end up with someone else after both Mourinho and Klinsmann both turn it down. I think it's time for him to ride off into the sunset on his trusty steed Josh Wolff.

My sister called me yesterday morning and said "I don't know why they had the camera on him, you could read his lips and it was a stream of profanities, when it was obvious Heaps didn't do that on purpose."

OK, everybody now...

Let's all laugh at Metro,
Let's all laugh at Metro,
Let's all laugh at Metro,
Let's all laugh at Metro,
Let's all laugh at Metro....

A bunch of things going on here, but they all boil down to everyone getting exactly what they deserve (other than Arena getting all that money he'll get for not coaching)

Red Bull are a joke (and yet, ironically enough, also a SuperClub) for sacking him after a year and a half. As much as a smug, sanctimonious prick that Arena is, if you really want any continuity and progress, you need to keep him for at least another year.

Arena made some questionalble moves. Anyone could have told you that Reyna was nothing more than an injury waiting to happen. Mathis is a $410,000 never fit luxury off the bench. Wattreus the walrus is an expensive and unnecessary acquisition. Conway is both better and a hell of a lot cheaper. Then again, money is never an object with the Crimson Cows.

Arena did well with Juan Pablo Angel, and Altidore Richards, and Francis Doe are scary enough to be the basis of a good team, if you made the right additions.

Bottom line is Arena is a smug, sanctimonious prick, and really should have done better. They were among the best teams in the league early in the season, but they faded when it mattered the most. Our Kool Aid Gang have already noted that they won the "Cup for being in first place in April."

Oh yeah, have I said that Arena is a a smug, sanctimonious prick yet?

I can't wait for the Filth to make a big splash with the announcement of Jose Murinho or Fabio Capello or Eddie Firmani's ghost as their next manager, none of whom have a clue about how MLS operates. That should keep the Mutts fighting with Cow-lumbus and Toronto for whatever scraps they can hope for to get into the playoffs for at least 3 more years :D

Sooooooooo-pah, soo-pah club,
soo-pah, soo-pah club
soo-pah, soo-pah club
You're a soo-pah club!

I noticed the profanities, too, and my TV's only an 8 inch :(

However, as soon as I saw Angel go down, I got an instant reminder of the JAM'N 94.5 chat with TnT and Noonan. I guess their gameplan turned out ironically funny... Here's a link to the few who missed it; http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/mediacenter/index.cfm?ac=videonewsdetail&pid=28736&pcid=117

I forgot about that...looks like the 'gameplan' worked on JPA, and they tried on Jozy, he is too young to go down that easily. ;)

Maybe Bruce missed the international schedule and couldn't pass up the US Women's National Team job . . .

Couldn't help myself.
