well, a win here would almost guarantee advancing to the next stage. Hopefully we can see a 4-4-2 formation and see Sheva and Pizzarro up front and give Drogba some rest.

Ugh, if we want a sure win here, why risk it with putting out 2 strikers that barely allowed us to squeeze past Leicester City?

how is this the striker's faults? 4 goals is not shabby.

I think we need to control the midfield and need Drogs to try and clinch a berth, then Sheva and Pizzaro can finish out the last two matces

so a 4-3-3, more attack minded than not, with an aggressive pressing the man on the ball in their half not falling back defense for me:

------Cech-
Belletti---Carv--Alex---Bridge
--------MAK-----
----Ess-----Lamps
J. Cole---Drogs---Malouda

Carlo, Pizzarro, Sheva, kalou SWP, Mikel, Ben Haim

One change for, SWP in for malouda.

that works for me as well, especially after his last performence after a shakey first few minutes, Malouda more experianced in Europe but still waiting for his partnership with Drogs and Ess from glorydays past to reemerge, Malouda not as dangerous looking or threatening but a little better at maintaing possession I think so he got the edge by a tiny bit from me for the away match with SWP sent in against tiring legs at 60 minutes or so

+1. I have been highly critical of SWP but the kid deserves the start

What's up with these terrible fixtures?

Shouldn't we play Rosenborg... it makes the most sense than playing back to back games with the same team.

Seems this is how they are doing it now. Iirc, we played the same team back to back last year, and pool have besiktas back to back this year. Not sure how long it's been like this though...

I think we need Drogba in this one, tbh. Schalke gave us a decent game at the Bridge, if Kuranyi is healthy I'd expect this to be a tough match. I think we'll see the 4-3-3/4-5-1, and I agree with lobo and Walt's line-up, if SWP hasn't earned himself a start over Malouda after his performance on the weekend than he's really getting the short end of the stick.

Makelele over Mikel for this one, his experience will be key and if we win this game, it allows us to rest Maka against Rosenborg and Valencia.

if Kuryani plays Drogba definitely needs to start
also i think SWP deserves the start, i always thought he should get more time on the pitch, the kids form is lookin fantastic.

This looks like the formation to go with, but I'd have SWP on the right where he usually is and J Cole on the left where he plays for England

I agree. Sheva seems to show up to CL matches and we need Drogba nice and rested for the prem matches.

But perhaps we can go with Drogba and then sub in Pizza and Sheva to finish them off.

kuranyi is out, per sky sports last night. i would love to give carvs a bit of a rest, but ben haim is a real stinker. alex and carvs have done pretty well in terry's (who?) absence.

I think as we learned at Leicester, we don't ever want to go into a match with Alex and Ben Haim, we always need one of Carv or JT and I'd be very tempted to go with Essien ahead of Ben Haim if JT and Carv were both unavailable, Ben Haim vcan be of some use with JT or Carv but not without it seems.

Rakitic starts. I really liked the look of that kid. Nice technique and good pace. Seems a clever player. Maka should handle him though. However I do remember saying the same thing when Schweinsteiger played against us and he scored.
