I am worried they could be like Greece, Behind the eight ball and lacking in funds (inflation) and security at times (Uru v Arg) etc...
But i think they will be successful.

I wonder how will Uruguay be able to host a 32-teams tournamet, if the number of WC spots does not increase by then.
Anyway I like the idea. Winning the World Cup Centennarium against Uruguay at their home will be Brazil's ultimate revenge for the 1950 Maracanazzo.
That's if Uruguay reach the finals too. And that's a big IF. :)

27 years is a lot, let's see.
We may have no economic problems and we always play a lot better being local.
Anyways the most important thing is not winning it, it's hosting it.

Sounds great to me. More World cups in South America. Uruguay would be great. They are really tough at home and in Copa America have never lost a game while hosting.

Yes come to think about it it would be good for the game (not the dollar remember) Uruguay have been fantastic in the past but they have not been their best since then and they are very slowly regaining that form again.
It would be a fantastic world cup.
Stadiums would be a problem, right? Does Uruguay have any really big ones other than the Centenario? Spending a lot of money to expand Uruguay's stadium capacity to anywhere near WC requirements seems like a very bad idea.
A Rio de la Plata World Cup might work well, though, with a few of the groups (and the final) being held in Uruguay, and the rest in the Buenos Aires area. I would buy tickets.

yes, neither a new nor bad idea. I wouldn't mind (kind of korea-japan).

Something special should happen for 2030, and Montevideo should be as involved as possible.
The trouble is that Uruguay will now forever be too small to be a sole host of the World Cup. No way. It would have to be shared with Brazil or Argentina.
FIFA would have to make an exception, perhaps a joint host with Agentina (assuming Brazil gets 2014) or Brazil/Argentina if there are 32 spots.
What I would really like to see is a special Centennial edition of the World Cup held with 64 teams, with all 10 CONEMBOL countries hosting
at least one of the 16 groups. That is a LOT of teams, but it only means a maximum of 8 games for the 4 best teams, only one more. What a memorable festival that would be! Opening match in Montevideo (maybe France and Mexico , like in 1930), semi-finals in Buenos Airies and Santiago, and a final in Maracana! Fantastico!

Keep dreaming my "big mouthed" brazilian friend. Uruguay has not been beaten at home, as my argentine friend well said, hosting Copa America and World Cup(when it counts), since 1916. You and I know what happens when brazilians see the "CELESTE" in front of them. Their legs turn to butter, their hearts ....... well no need to tell you. And if you don't know go and ask your daddy. He'll know for sure.
It's incredible! It's been 53 years, they won 5 World Cups, and they're still can not comprehend how such a little nation could defeat a "giant" like them. They're still out looking for revenge. It's in the genes. It's passed from generation to generation. Well my "frustrated" brazilian friend: You might win 5 more World Cups, you could bring back Pele and Garrincha, you can bring Havelange and his maffia back, etc. etc., but you will NEVER win a World Cup in Centenario Stadium. You and I know that you don't have a big enough heart.

thats a great idea but it might just be too large to pull off.

Security would have to be vastly improved so there couldn't be a repeat performance of the airport incident when the Australian team landed to play Uruguay in the World Cup qualifying playoff. Players being assaulted and spat on by the general public is not acceptable and resulted in formal protests being sent to FIFA from the OFC and Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

Oh please, that is light-hearted razzing compared to what most other countries do in the same situation. Among the things that could inhibit Uruguay from hosting, security is one of the least concerns.

In the OFC this is completely unacceptable. The response from the OFC board and the Australian Prime Minister showed how unacceptable we found it. The OFC will vote, like every other confederation, in the World Cup 2030 hosting vote and that incident will certainly be remembered.
I actually find it quite disturbing that you described the physical assault of the Australian captain at the airport as "light-hearted razzing". He was punched in the face by a Uruguay supporter. In the OFC we call this a criminal offense.

It will be 27 years from now.... let's see 27 years ago was 1976.
In 1976.....
Maradona made his professional debut..... Argentina never won the World Cup..... Pele was selling out games in NY..... Beckenbauer won his 2nd European Player of Year Award.... George H Bush became the head of CIA.... and George W. got his MBA a year earlier.
So a lot of things happened in 27 years. It will be hard to judge Uruguay's bid right now.

Yeah, yeah, yeah,.... blah, blah, blah.....
In the OFC you also think that you can play football, and that you "deserve" a place in the World Cup so ......
Ps: Still hurting from that 3-0 trashing, huh?

What we expect is that when we arrive in a country to play a game of football we will not be physically assaulted at the airport. We also expect that if one of our players is assaulted by a member of the general public the Police will charge that individual.
Unfortunately in Uruguay that day neither happened.

And what we expect is that our ability to host not to be judged looking at the actions of a few morons, but looking at our more than 100 years tradition of hosting the best tournaments in the World. By your standard no country in the would be able to host a World Cup, not even Australia(home to the sweetest, most innocent people in the world).

I certainly don't believe the Aussies are the "sweetest, most innocent people in the world" but they certainly wouldn't assault foreign nationals at the airport.
I agree that Uruguay who hosted some fantastic tournaments. The Rugby Sevens tournament held recently in Uruguay was fantastic. Great rugby, great people, great event.
The WC hosting votes are extremely tight so you don't want to have any skeletons in the closet and unfortunately for Uruguay those morons (as you so correctly described them) have created one for Uruguay.
