First regular season football game with my NY GIANTS playing the terrible Miami Dolphins. Sold out New Wembley looks like a Super Bowl game just amazing. Sad that we can't sell out our big stadiums in the states for Soccer games.

I don't expect us to sell the big stadiums out for MLS games at this point, but a league average of over 16,000 per game isn't too shabby.

However, other games do sell out. Pre-season matches between European teams (ManU, Celtic, Milan, Chelsea, etc.) have sold out big NFL stadiums over the past few years. National team games sell out regularly. Expecting more than that is naive and only setting oneself up for failure.

Well when the Galaxy played Chelsea at the Home Depot stadium I think it seats 20,000 to 25,000 it was sold out. When the US National team played Brazil at Solider Field I don't know if it was sold out or not but that seats about 60,000 to 65,000 thats about what Old Trafford seats. New Wembley seats 90,000 I mean that is larger then any other professional sports stadium(Not collegiate though) in America and it is sold out for American Football which I thought would not be so. Especially since 1 team is 0-7 so in my mind that is truly amazing.

old trafford holds 76,000. many people will have gone to wembley for a day out and something different, its a bit like you say when the big european teams play in america the people there will do the same. plus london is a great big multi-cultural city, so thats probably another reason for the sell out.

I'm sure the Dolphins and Giants fans were into it, but I doubt too many beyond that (meaning most of the crowd) were all that into it. As an Eagles fan, I had a hard time watching on TV, but if I'd been living in London and could have gotten a ticket, I probably would have gone...albeit watching with relative disinterest other than to hope the Giants lost.

I'm curious as to what percentage of the fans were Americans. Sky Sports News had interviews with fans after the game, abot half of whom were English, the other half American. I wonder if that's representative of the actual makeup of the crowd or not.

Hauler - that Galaxy-Chelsea game probably could have sold over 50,00 tickets if there'd been room. Look at the preseason games played between the big Euro clubs - they've sold out places like Lincoln Financial Field (Philly) and Giants Stadium. Look at the crowds that came out to watch the Galaxy this season at Giants Stadium and RFK. Whether you want to ascribe that to curiosity, starpower (i.e. the Beckham factor), or what have you, the fact still remains that they were huge crowds.

I'd say tha the main reason American football hasn't made it outside the US and Canada is because no one else plays it. It's a small talent pool to draw from; besides, it's a pretty difficult game to understand if you're not familiar with all the rules and their nuances.

As for it not becoming a world sport...I, along with many others (including many NFL fans), couldn't care less!
