Petit is crap.
England have a lot of decent midfielders; Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Dyer, Lampard, Jenas, Joe Cole.

Brazil also has a lot of "decent" midfielders,
Ronaldinho, Diego, Gilberto Silva, Kaka, Kleberson, Juninho, Rivaldo(can be a midfielder), Emerson, Serginho, Denilson, Ze Roberto.
Lets not forget Argentina:
Aimar, Veron, Killy Gonzalez, Simeone, Sorin, D' Allesandro, Tevez, Ortega
The Netherlands:
Edgar Davids, Seedorf, Van der Vaart, Van der Meyde, Overmars, Zenden, Sneidjer
All three of these countries I would say have better midfielders than England.
Maybe even Italy,
Totti, Cameronesi, Zambrotta, Tomassi, Tacchniardi, Doni, Gattuso, Pirlo, Luigi DiBaggio, (is Miccoli a midfielder or a forward)

Well it's completely subjective but I disagree that players like Gilberto Silva, Zenden or DiBiaggio are 'better' than the English midfielders listed.
But it's all about opinion, I suppose - although yours is clearly wrong :D

I meant collectively as a group. True, Scholes is better than Zenden!!!

Ballack, Jeremies, Frings, Hamann, Schneider, Deisler.
For France: Zidane is getting old.

Can Friedel play in the middle too?
If so, i know who's going to win the poll :p
France edges out the dutch at the moment.
That will of course swing the other way in the very near future.

I've observed all 4 of these polls and Italy is tops in goalkeeping and defenders, and doing alright in strikers. But if there is one thing I can't argue with its that thay have HORRIBLE midfielders, horrible, just horrible.
Holland by far and away. England second.

I cannot believe you would include germany over Portugal. The germans are weak, Ballack has a very good goal record but has little pace or dribbling abilty, just good heading and a powerful shot. When he's marked closely, he's ineffective. The others are poor or have underachieved at international level. There's definitely been some vote-stuffing in these polls for them.
I would go with France. Zidane - Pires- Viera - Makele. You cannot top that. I like Portugal's midfield, but their defensive midfielders are very average, Figo and Rui Costa's best days are behind them, Deco has not proved himself at a major tournament or in the Champions league, while the others (Quaresma, Viana etc..) have great potential but are not at the highest level yet.

germany MF's: ballack, frings, hamann, bohme, ramelow, schneider, ziege, bierofka, balitsch, hitzlsperger, feulner, schweinsteiger - is there a more defensively sound group? and don't even get me started on ballack... i'd tell you he was the second best #10 shirt in the world right now behind zidane and, if memory serves, an earlier BS poll yielded the same result

Spanish football isn't quite as accessible as some of the other leagues yet......although it's getting there.
Seriously though, who besides Mendieta, Tristan, Helguera, and that winger who plays for the green team(Sevilla?) do they have? His name escapes me at the moment.
I voted for Argentina--Veron, Aimar, D'Allessandro, Redondo, Riquelme, Romagnoli, Kily Gonzalez, Burrito Ortega, Simeone, Solari, and someone else I'm forgetting...
