inspired by a recent thread - i will also post polls for the other positions, should be interesting - use whatever reasoning you wish, sorry if anybody's favorite is not there - for the sake of argument i'll list in my top 8 order

Italy. They have two of the world's three best goalkeepers, with Buffon and Toldo.

i think this pretty much sums everything up.
personally imo toldo is the best in the world.

The US are winning 6-4... what the hell!? Come on Yanks, vote honestly

Friedel is amazing, but Buffon is the worlds best
Keller is very, very good but Toldo is the worlds 2nd or 3rd best
Howard is good and young, but Pelizzoli (Roma) is as good, if not better and younger

After your first three you've not really got anything... Italy has Cudicini, Abbiati, Peruzzi, Bonano & Pagliuca to fall back on

Italy is the king of goalkeeping nations and you know it!

Italy. It may be possible to argue if Italy has the best keeper in the world, but you can't argue about the depth of quality keepers they have.

i agree that italy is the top GK country, but the US is hardly barren after the top 3 (brown, countess, hahnemann, walker, hartman, cannon, presthus, rimando, baumstark)

and i am kinda sick of people asserting that buffon is better than toldo because trapattoni is senile - IMO toldo is quite superior to bufoon and always has been

Why is it being restricted to current goalkeepers?

Bonetti
Banks
Shilton

In their day as good as or better than any three.

1- i never compared them to toldo - i'll resist the urge to blast

2- not much to do when you are the #4 through #12 keeper for your country, now is there? - combined they have about 12 caps for the US with about 3 starts and a couple of them are not even senior internationals yet... doesn't mean they aren't good

Um...the fact that the trio of Buffon, Toldo and Cudicini are laging behind the US speaks volumns about where the motivation lies.

Perhaps you are right though.
Search engines would go into melt down as hoards of yank teenage "football experts" looked up who they were.

Geting me hat and coat.......

ok (yawn)

1- i am not a teenager and i know just as much football as you... maybe (gasp!) more

2- i voted for italy - the selections are listed in the order i would place them in

3- all i meant, in a harmless ribbing sort of way, was
that you would prefer an all-time poll because england have certainly been in better GK-ing shape then they are now - for instance, you are worse off than the US between the pipes... and don't that sting OOOOOO!!!

Bonetti? Peter Bonetti? The man to blame for England's 1970 defeat to W. Germany? Ahead of the great Ray Clemence?

As for current keepers its Italy by a mile. Cudicini is their 3rd choice and he is as good as any keeper in the world.

It is Italy, simple as that. The fact that Germany is leading shows that some members of this board are cheating and/or very stupid.

:)

Spain has zero votes as of now. That speaks volumes too. If Friedel and Keller had been Spanish and Canizarez and Casillas American....

Well you get the drift.

i dont know... i sense that the spain keepers are underrated worldwide - not sure that's exclusive to the US

The Spanish 'keepers:

Casillas
Canizares
Molina
Cesar
Exteberria (how DO you pronounce that!?)
and a few others I can't think of

Great keepers, but Italy's are better. also, they don't have one of the worlds 2 or 3 best (like Kahn for Germany) and they don't get the biased US posters, either

i believe you're thinking of zubizaretta (sp?), he's retired and he was not that good anyway (anyone remember his WC meltdown against nigeria?)

exteberria is an attack mid/forward

I think it's Zubizarreta (2 Rs,1 T), but I could be wrong.

Who voted for Brasil? I voted Italy, in a coin toss over the USA.

Germany has no business leading this poll. Kahn is only one man.
