OK, looks like Nicol got what he wanted.

Certainly adequate. It would have helped if Noonan and Smith had not had such an off night. A lot of erratic passing all around, but Thomson was a pleasant surprise. Nice to see MP get a shout for league MVP at the top of the broadcast. Interesting that with the slo-mo replays the refs were mostly right despite Arena's grousing and end-of-game hissy fit.

Back from the bus trip. Here are my thoughts...
1. Those on the bus, plus some new faces and minus some regulars, really brought the passion tonight. Very loud and vocal. Thank you to my fellow Riders who organized ourselves so a 2nd pickup spot in CT was feasible.
2. NJSEA security finally did their damn jobs and kept an eye out. Escort into the stadium. Almost a dozen bodies in the area of our section, and an escort out. To my knowledge there were no problems. I wonder if the NY keyboard warriors have the courage to come up to Foxboro?
3. Khano's offense was off, but his defense really made the game. He helped break up a goal or two.
4. Offense wasn't clicking tonight.
5. Red Bull had no real movement. Angel had little impact on the game.
We can win at home. A victory and we move on to the ECF.

you've got to be kidding. we always have a safe and enjoyable time when coming up to foxboro. The scoreline is the only thing we need to fear. We have a bus coming up, don't you worry, you can't miss us.

Certainly adequate.
"Adequate" is a good term to describe this team/franchise, though in affairs of passion, "adequate" is often not enough.

This game was EXACTLY how Stevie Nics drew it up. Play defensively...keep the wingers back. Ask the young horses (Khano and Wells) to run and run and run. Go for the draw, hope to sneak a lucky one in at the end.
Shalrie was a monster in the middle. MOTM as far as I am concerned.
I thought Khano did very well defensively yesterday. There were two plays in the second half that exemplified this...Khano stepping in with his body after John was beat in the box, and Khano stealing the ball in our box then making a 60 yard run to receive an attacking pass in their end. Sure, he stunk with the ball at his feet (other than his two good crosses per game that he allotted by the soccer gods), but it looks like he is learning.
Wells suprised me by playing well overall. His best game ever.
Draw on the road, win at home - just like the coach drew it up. Lets hope the players follow the game plan next Saturday.

Good enough result. Would have been great to pick up a goal, but I'd rather be headed home 0-0 than going on the road 0-0.

For all our gloom & doom, which I generally share, we were the only higher seeded team not to lose the first leg of the playoff. I didn't get to see any of the game, but the highlights showed NY pressing hard in the first half. Good to survive that and come back to Foxboro with a clean slate.

We are bringing 2 busses and about another 20-30 driving iup on their own. WTF does it have to do with courage? What the hell is a keyboard warrior anyway?

Hey look who it is, our resident RBNY troll!!
My comment was aimed at the NY fans who were dishing out threats at us in various online forums. They never showed up.

I'm happy with the result, if only to finally see our defense earn a clean sheet, and in a tough environment at that.
I think 0-0 is a good place to be coming home for the second leg. That's the typical strategy of any 2-leg series; tie on the road and win at home.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to actually watch the game, but a yellow card of Parky? Is that his first of the year?
I hope the team has a good week of training and everyone rests up and stays healthy. Getting past this first game gives me, at least, a lot more confidence going forward, and I bet the team is feeling very good about their chances as well.

I was very upset with our play, tried to voice that by singing louder than I have in a while. The fact that it took almost an hour to get a shot off and that no one was subbed in until the last few minutes in the game shows me that Nicol was 100% playing for the draw. Luckily we have a keeper that lets us do that, or the game could have easily been 3-0 Red Balls

It would have helped if Smith had not had such an off night. .
Looked like an average Khano night to me, bad crosses, losing the ball deep in NY half of the field trying the same move over and over.....same ole khano

Hey what can i say, you guys finally did what I have been telling you to do all season with respect to security and planning in and out of the stadium, and nothing happened. Shocking.

In all fairness to Khano, he was he same offensively but was a completely new player defensively. He had some quality tackles throughout the night. Basically, he had one play that defined his game last night:
He stole the ball in our half (at the 30 yard line:p), dribbled up through the middle of the field, blowing by players, and then blasted it to the wing to absolutely no one.

i may be speaking for only myself, but I intend to show hospitality to only those deserving of it. I have had enough of being disrespected, attacked, and assaulted at away venues for the sole fact that i support my team. I have made trips to NY, DC, CLB, COL, KC, TOR, FCD (mls cup), and have only walked away with one (and a half) positive experiences, at COL and half of TOR. Thugs that call themselves "fans" ruin it for the supporters of their respective clubs. If i hear anything of disrespect to our fans from travelling support, it will be the last straw and i will no longer try to be nice or hospitable.
enough is enough, and if we have to get seated away from the rest of the stadium, i hope everyone else gets seated that way as well, including at our place.
that said, i was thouroughly surprised with security and fans at last nights game. about time you guys showed some "class" (although yelling obscenities and flipping us off on the way out isnt exactly classy. real fans would cheer their team instead of wasting time and effort on other fans).
heres to what the beautiful game should be about, and what i hope never happens again.

I find it funny someone that speaks so glowingly of "class" would and tounge in cheek calling us class and then call us all @ssholes especially to someone (me) that, as your club leader can tell you, has your best interests at heart.
You expect every person in the world to be waiving at you and saying hello and welcome, thats not a realistic viewpoint its fantasy. While the vast majority of fans won't go to that extra step some will. As an organized supporters club you have to be prepared to handle that. Even worse you engage in blanket statements and broad charicterizations of other fans because you have an unpleasent experiance with a handful of them.
As for being "real fans" i am sure you got a front row eleveated seat at GS as to 101 fans singing and jumping for their team. And if some of them give you a little verbal ribbing on the way out it hardly takes away from their passion and fandom. And i find your comment insulting.
For christs sakes, nothing happened and everything went well, and you still complain about it and call us losers and not real fans?!? Unbelievable.

Did you notice he talked about almost every other MLS team in his post? We've had a lot of bad experiences on away trips, usually caused by the away fans. I was at the Toronto trip and the only thing I can complain about is the fans attitude towards us at the end of the game, and the stealing of our banner. The rest of the trip was a blast. I have a feeling that's what he's getting at, he's sick of other fans giving us crap and ruining our away trips when we try and make their stay here as good as we can.
