Amazed the police didn't switch this game to an early kick off or ban away fans:-

Trouble flared outside Elland Road before and after today's game between Leeds United and Millwall.

Police officers on horseback charged at Leeds fans waiting outside Elland Road near the Billy Bremner statue as three double decker buses filled with Millwall supporters pulled up at around 2.15pm.

Windows and doors on the buses were put through by yobs on board as they tried
to goad watching Leeds fans into confrontation.

Police managed to avoid any actual physical clashes taking place.

As the trouble flaredd a line of police held back a mob of around 200 chanting Leeds fans a short distance down Elland Road while a police helicopter hovered overhead.

There were further disturbances after the game as police tried to force Leeds fasn a safe distance from the ground while Millwall supporters were held inside.

Officers on horseback and others with dogs and armed with truncheons spent around 40 minutes clearing the area around Elland Road.

At one point clashes between cops and United yobs trying to stand their ground could be seen breaking out in the local McDonalds car park.

Once order had been restored Millwall fans were let out of the stadium onto a number of double decker buses and driven away under heavy police escort at about 5.55pm.

I don't understand how a bus driver would let a Milwall fan onto his bus after that. How the hell did they bus the Millwall fans out of there after the game?!

They were chartered to take the fans from the station to the ground. The damage to them was caused by Millwall fans kicking the windows out. I take it the original poster lifted the article off the Yorkshire Evening Post site. I was at the game, and the trouble kicked off in the city centre, with Millwall fans singing songs about the Galatasaray game in Istanbul where two leeds fans were murdered, and they needed around 200 police to confine them into one bar, before being loaded onto buses to take them to the ground, where the buses windows were put through, and the odd brick exchanged. It was the fault of the police controller who managed to get the bus drivers to drive down the actual Elland Road, past the biggest gathering point for pre-match drinks, when he could have gone as many as five better ways, thus approaching the stadium in the direction of where they would be sitting rather than the other corner. After the game, Millwalls fans were kept inside the stadium for half an hour to allow the police time to clear the area before loading them back on. Unfortunately a group of perhaps 50 (200 is way too much for what I saw) Leeds fans decided that they were going to stick around. The police said afterwards that a number of arrests were made inside and outside the stadium (the vast majority of them Millwall 'fans') and they have identified nearly everyone who caused trouble at the game for arrests at a later date. They filmed the incidents outside using police surveillance teams, and compared it with the stadium CCTV to find out where the clowns were sitting (photo id and their M'wall member cards were needed to get in). I don't think a lot will come of it, especially for Leeds who didn't start the trouble at any stage.

Well thats good. I really never had any doubt that it was Millwall that started everything. They have a penchant for riots and the like.
