That was a very nice piece by FDA on Nicol. You can really see from this piece how well he can mould a team and how much cohesion and organization are important to him.
We are really lucky to have him. It's just too bad that the Krafts don't give him the resources to work with that other top MLS clubs have. :(

I agree that we are very, very lucky to have Nicol.
But, as for your second point, we don't really have any evidence that that is true. For example, Nicol acknowledged considering Denilson, but decided he wasn't worth what it would take to sign him - it wouldn't have gotten that far if the money wasn't there.

But Nicol did say that the reason we didn't sign the 2 "name" players earlier this season was strictly down to money.

I know that he's all nice and comfortable here...but seeing what he's done with very limited resources since he's been with the Revs and with his keen eye in picking diamonds among shards of glass...If the Revs do indeed win MLS cup and SN garners some spotlight, he may be gone before a Shalrie, TNT or even Parky.
If I was a billionaire owner of a high level team, I'd give him a shot..or at the very least an assistant position somewhere where his talent can be truly utilized. For all you SN haters...he should be the coach of the decade.

I agree 100%
I myself was once a Nicol hater. Time and time again he has proven me wrong. In present day, you could definately call me a Nicol aficionado! For the good of the team, I hope he is here for a while (with PM and the rest of the staff).

MLS organizations and budgets are so hard to really understand that I don't think we'll ever know how the REVs rate relative to other MLS clubs. But "resources" can refer to more things than just money. Since I'd like to see the REVs win about 45 MLS Cups in a row, I'll forget other teams and just continue to opine on what I wish the Krafts could/would do to help SN make the team better.
I'd like to see SN get one or more additional assistants (assuming he wants them) and/or scouts. He has an eye for talent and an ability to develop players. Why not empower him to better apply that skill to a larger selection pool than the draft? Assuming SN can successfully select assistants and scouts, I'd also like to see a real developmental (Academy?) system put in place.
Neither of those require that we sign an over-the-hill superstar like Denilson. Too bad MLS doesn't just up the salary cap a couple million rather than going to two DP's (as rumored) next year. Then we might be able to afford two Parkhursts, two Dormans, two Noonans, 4 Jeff L's and a competitive backup keeper.

He probably means they knew he was available when he means considered. Count me as firmly in the Nicol isnt given any resources and still makes due camp.

OK, so if you are a defense lawyer and you use that line about your client, he walks. It's like the journalist who uses a line like "Police say that the suspect's gym bag may have contained cocaine." Yeah, it may have. It also may have contained a severed head, the key to the city, and a couple of allocations that haven't been seen since 2005, but we don't know unless you open it up.
In your example, you pretty much defeat your own arguemnt. Yes he "considered" Denilson "but decided he wasn't worth what it would take to sign him - it wouldn't have gotten that far if the money wasn't there." But we don't really have any evidence that that the conversation didn't go like this:
Nicol to agent: We are wondering if Denilson would consider playing for us here in New England. We gut a greeet fitba cluub and there's a lotta Brasell-yens in the area. He should feel rate at hame.
Agent: Yeah, he's definitely considering a move to the US. I think he might be interested.
SN: Greet! Hoe much money would it take tae sane hemm?
Agent: Well, we'll consider $3 million a year to start.
SN: Whaa? Yuuur foookin' maaaad! We'll gie ye two-feffty furra year, the resta thess year an next.
Agent: Uhhh, thanks, but no thanks.

I'd also like to see a real developmental (Academy?) system put in place.
I was just thinking about that today... I looked at the academy section of the Revs website and it looks totally crap... I mean really, WHY are there GIRLS there? Don't take this the wrong way, but unless we can SIGN them to the team at some point they shouldn't be there... The Revs should probably hook up with some local private school and get a residency program going. That would mean FOCUSED training, not just calling up the local middle school and saying: "Hey, want Shalrie Joseph to teach you guys to flick the ball on?" I mean, look at RBNY. Ferrari (a kid they trained) is currently in Italy, playing for Sampdoria. (admittedly it's mostly Reserve games, but come on... ITALY) Are any of the kids the Revs train in one week camps going to play for ManU or Bayern Munich? No... Will they even play for us? Probably not... That's a definite problem...
You'd think the FO would be smart enough to get something started like this, but hey... rant over...

Nicol clearly hopes to set up an atmosphere similar to his days at Liverpool FC, which functioned almost like a family.
I'm sure this has been discussed billions of times, but ... YNWA? ;)
