I'm trying to make contact with a friend of mine in Virginia, his last address I have is in Ripplemead, I've tried google for the Virginia white pages for his phone number, but unlike the UK, OZ & NZ, that part of the States seems reluctant to list residential phone numbers, so if anyone on this board could help with a link to an online free phone book for the area it would be much appreciated.

Hello mate.
You could give these a try?

I got them from this site: http://www.indexoftheweb.com/Information/White_Pages.htm
Hope it helps - I've never tried any of them at all so they could be useless!
Good luck.

Is he just not listed, or are you having trouble getting the Ripplemead numbers?
Have you tried the old fashioned international directory enquiries? Bit expensive, but they often connect you direct to the country and area enquiry system.
You could mail me his name and I'll do a credit check on him. Banks have ways of finding people. Lol.:D

If he came over on the Mayflower, Brian, he just might not be around anymore!!!!!!

I'm not sure they strung phone lines out that far Claret. You might have to just contact anybody you can in Virginia and then ask them to get a message to your mate, 'cause their all related down there anyway. :D

You might be right there mate, but I'm making progress, as I've located a person with the same surname as my mate in the town of Ripplemead, so I'll phone her and see if she is related.:)

Nothing as intriguing as that stomper, just trying to contact a friend who I've lost touch with.

Exactly the answer I would expect from an operative. My uncle was is special ops during the war, did 17 operational jumps (liasing with the resistance/ partisans etc) and every year afterwards met with a (East) German 'friend' in Italy until the end of the cold war. Totally innocent, just a guy who had fought on the same battlefield albeit on the other side. Fortunate then that my uncle had been trained to speak german and read gothic script by the ministry.
So I hope you find your 'friend'
