Wie gehtst, Deutsche Feunden???
I have a question for you, as you may know v Basten and v Bommel dont see eye to eye, so Bommel has refused to play for our NT.
So I ask you, if Bommel were German would he:
a) Start for the German NT
b) At least be a bench player for Germany
c) He's not good enough to make the team
Please vote, thanks

he would be our third central midfielder behind Frings & Ballack

He would start skill wise. It would be important for him to fit to the team charachterwise thouhg, it's always hard with the Dutch :-D

At the very least, from the bench with a very good chance of starting.

Right now I'd put him in the starting 11.
Van Bommel wil Duitser worden :D

Van Bommel wil Duitser worden :D
He said that as a joke on a TV interview and the whole country was up in arms
Even if he wanted to he cant since he played for Oranje already
Thanx everyone for voting, so far noone believes he'd be left ouf of the team.
Its a pity he cant get along with vBasten cause we really need a strong midfield.
I also think Germany is equal or perhaps slightly better then Holland right now, so this poll says a lot

I know that's why I had the > :D
Funny though, how some people actually believed it was possible.

He would definitely be in the match squad. Ie. 11 starters + 7 subs.

It pisses me off cause right now we have enough talent for a 4-4-2 midfield
(vd Vaart, Sneijder, vBommel & Seedorf).
That IMHO is world class and should be enough to make the Semi's.
But instead vBasten insists on a 4-3-3 and has left vBommel out of the squad altogether.
If we dont do well this summer, its because we once again have destructed from within :o

He would start.
Over who?
The thing is that he isn't as talented with the ball at his feet as Frings or Ballack. He is talented, but not as much as them, hence not enough to play the way Germany do, where everyone is required to be versatile.
That's why he wouldn't start, given the way Germany play.
But definitely in the 18.

Our midfield has gotten better (Sneijder & vdVaart).
Our forwards (vPersie) have also gotten better.
Our defence still sucks.
And we need a new coach, is Klinsmann still available??? :D

It's Holland's historical problem that they are not playing as a team, and the V Bommel problematic is part of that.

Van Persie is going to be a VERY good player.
Sneijder needs to improve still and Van der vaart is the same. By top international standards.
Why didn't these guys play at the WC? Or did they? I can't remember now.
Also van nistelrooy didn't play at the WC right?

That's wrong. They've had problems inside the team but so have other teams. So it's not only Holland's problem.
How about Germany 1974, 1982, 1994, 2000?

Compared to where most of the Dutch NT played Holland always underachieved, with the exceptions of 74 and 88. Other teams do that as well, but Holland more notably than others.

Even with that criteria, I still wouldn't say more times than other teams though.
More notably maybe, because it's made a big deal out of more in the media when Holland do it.

I think that van Bommel would have a good chance of starting. Whose to say that we would play a 4-4-2 if we had him. Maybe we would change tactics. Van Bommel has a few advantages over Frings IMHO that would make him very valuable. He is stronger defensively, and is a better shooter. I really would like to see what a Ballack/v.Bommel midfield would look like.
If we had v. Bommel I would like the team up like this:
-----------------------Lehmann
---Lahm---Mertesacker---Metzelder---Jansen---
-----------------Frings-----v.Bommel---------------
----------Ballack-------------------Schweini--------
----------------Klose---------Poldi-------------------
Ballack and Schweini would be attacking midfielders and Lahm/Jansen would provide width down the flanks.
