Nike to acquire British supplier Umbro

LONDON (AP) - Nike announced plans to acquire Britain's Umbro on Tuesday, continuing its aggressive moves in the field of soccer in an attempt to gain a larger international market presence in the sport.

The acquisition is a major step for the U.S. apparel and shoe maker, which has said it wants to become soccer's top brand by the next World Cup in 2010.Which begs the question? Will Cruz Azul now get NIKE jerseys because of this buy out?

It might just be a subsidiary of Nike.

Why would they buy Umbro and ditch the name? Back in the 90s UMBRO really took off in the US and it has since faded away. I wonder if they can bring its cache back here.
