View Full Version : What will it take to get the Revs into Boston team talks?

Day after day I hear about how the Red Sox will win the World Series, the Patriots will win the Super Bowl, the Bruins have improved drastically, the Celtics have the potential to do well for the first time in years, yet no one mentions our Revs.
It's not like everyone doesn't know who they are, I think the vast majority at least know of the team, know that it's a professional soccer team, but no one ever seems to know our status.
Marketing? Media coverage? Word of mouth? What will it take to get us into the mix?

The Revs need to win the World Series or a Superbowl, either will suffice.

Don't forget, BC is ranked #2.

You're not hearing "day after day" how the Bruins have improved drastically. That's just not accurate.
And when the Associated Press did the obligatory "Hey, Boston's on a roll" story, they did mention the Revs.

The Revs would need to win championships and get a Beckham type name player, at least in my opinion.

I always joke that its a "slow news day" when they show Revs highlights in sports. Last year, when they lost the MLS Cup, they didn't even show highlights- they barely mentioned that they even played. I always feel like I'm fighting a lost cause. Unless the Revs sign someone like Beckham (which I really hope they don't do) I don't think they will ever be noticed.
I enjoy the relative anonymity. It keeps the ticket prices cheap:p I don't want to be paying the prices the Sox fans pay for theirs- I could never afford to ever go to a game ever again.

Marketing? Media coverage? Word of mouth? What will it take to get us into the mix?Nothing would do that... EXCEPT for new editors.

If the Revs won MLS Cup this year, they'd get a lot more mention. That's what makes the past 2 years so painful. Had they won, the mainstream would have thrown the Revs into the mix when talking about the Pats/Super Bowl and Sox/World Series contention. If they won their championship, it would be hard to ignore if the Sox and/or Pats win theirs.
"Almost winning," no matter by how slim of a margin, does not count.

I agree with this right here.
Winning multiple trophies or getting some big name player known well around the world would make some difference.

Dan Shaughnessy needs to write about a made up curse, Mark Henderson needs to plow the penalty spot for Matt Reis, and Rick Pitino needs to say that Clint Dempsey and Larry Bird aren't walking through that door. We've accomplished step one by hosting Rene Rancourt at the home opener last spring... :p

*sigh*
The Pats, Celtics, and BC got mentioned during the Sox game, yet the only New England team to win a trophy this season gets no credit
*cries in corner*

When a story about the Red Sox preceeds one about almost a million acres of California soil burning, it's safe to say there's no hope for the Revs any time soon.
Go to Boston.com and click on "Pinch Me I'm Dreaming". There Revs are featured along with some of our resident media whores, and there is a poll at the end asking who the most ignored team is or something.

Well....
If Wells Thompson started dating Lindsay Lohan and of course he gets her back on the right track, because he is a nice Southern boy...she decides she is ready to settle down and get married, but Wells' image is just a farce because he DUMPS Lindsay for Paris Hilton. Well, what Lindsay didn't tell Wells is that she is expecting their child. Wells is rocked, stunned, but Paris stands by him saying she is looking forward to being a second mommy to Lindsay and Wells baby. Things are going well for the strange little threesome...Lindsay pregnant and in the tabloids....Paris and Wells traveling all over the world in the tabloids. Paris has even agreed to design jerseys for the lady soccer fans (because now we have millions) and there is this jersey that says "Revohilton" that is hugely popular, being pink and bedazzled.
Then, Pat Noonan has to miss a game due to his recent outbreak of crabs. Wells thinks nothing of it, UNTIL, suddenly, he has a outbreak of crabs???!!! At first he thinks maybe is just a proximity to Noonan thing so he consults Adam Cristman
"Sorry, dude," Adam responds
Wells is being played by Pat and Paris. In a shocking turn, Pat and Paris run off together, and the papps spot them canoodling all over Gillette Stadium.
Finally Linds has the baby and names her Darling Cutie Lohan - as EFF You to Wells.
That is when the Boston press will talk about the Revs
OR Maybe if all the Revs exited the game bus pantsless
That was even better than reading perezhilton. Julie, you get an A++++.
I also think them exiting the bus pantless is a fantastic idea.

They mention the Revs in passing in a lot of the 'Boston kicks ass' stories, just as often as they mention the Bruins.
Did I mention that BC is #2? :D :D :D
