View Full Version : Liverpool v Arsenal [R] - Pre/Dur/Post Match Comments

23 Oct 2007, 07:35 PM
Competition: Barclays Premier League
Date: Sunday 28th October
Kick Off: 1200 EST, 1600 GMT
Venue: Anfield
This match apparently poses the first real question mark of Arsenal's amazing start to the season (well, they said that about Spurs but meh). Arsenal pose the same question to Liverpool every year...but it never gets answered. Now is the time to get answers, to perform to our potential in a period which sees us play away from home in 8 out of our next 10 games, and most importantly, to get an answer to the age old question -

It's a really tough call. Liverpool is likely to be a close game, and Eduardo has a knack for scoring scrappy goals. Walcott had a good game today, but i think it might be better having him come off the bench.

I'm wondering with the UK time "falling back" on the 28th and North America a week later does that mean it starts at 12:00 EDT:confused:
PS It wasn't a Pioneer Stereo was it??:D

I agree Anti. I think this is going to be a tight game and I just don't think that Walcott is ready for that yet. To take nothing away from him at all, I just feel that Eduardo would fit better on Sunday. This is going to be a tough one for sure, 2-1 to us. Ade and Eduardo after we fall down a goal.

Arsene will bring Theo on if we need to score in the second half. I think its difficult to predict the score on this one. I think this is a game you gotta win to shut the skeptics up, but a draw at anfield wouldnt be too bad either. Lets just hope the ref isnt too horrible in this one, because if stevie g dives you know he's getting the call.
1-0 adebayor with a late winner!

Almunia
Sagna---Toure--Gallas---Clichy
Eboue/Rosicky---Cesc--Flamini---Theo
Hleb---
---Ade
^^^Any opinions? Seemed to work well in the preseason, but probably too experimental for such an important game. I would expect something along these lines:
Almunia
Sagna---Toure--Gallas---Clichy
Hleb---Cesc--Flamini---Rosicky
Ade---Dudu/Theo
Either way, a 2-1 win. Will Torres still be out? If that's the case, maybe a 2-0.
UP THE ARSENAL!!!

Eduardo was way off the pace against Bolton. Give me Walcott against the slow Liverpool backline and throw Bendtner in as a sub if needed. At this point, I think Eduardo is our fifth best striker.
He's going to need atleast a year in England before he can make a true impact in the Premiership.

i dont think eduardo has had enough of a chance to show his worth yet. I think he has sparks of greatness during the bolton game, but was on a bit of a different wave length. Id love to see him start on sunday, and walcott come on as a decisive sub.

Hell yeah. You've got to play the guy who's on form. And Walcott is on fire.

I can't stand Almunia, but Jens is probably rusty. Here's my team
-----------Almunia--------------
Sagna--Toure--Gallas (c)--Clichy
------------Famini--------------
Hleb--Fabregas--Rosicky--Walcott
-----------Adebaeyor-----------
Bench:
Jens
Gilberto
Diaby/Diarra
Eduardo
Bendtner
I like the attack minded 4-5-1 in big games with the opportunity for Walcott to push forward to a 4-4-2 instantly (and I do mean instantly....damn he's quick). It worked quite well against ManU last year away and I think we can do it again. We could also slot Gilberto in the holding role for this formation, but Flamini is doing so well right now.

You have the players right but the formation wrong. Walcott will play up top like he did today.

COME ON! We did 'em twice last year at Anfield; let's do it again!
I'm putting ten bucks on this with my Liverpool-supporting friend. I believe there to be zero chance I will lose the bet.

Well, OK then :) As I said, Walcott can make this formation a 4-4-2 like nothing flat. And with Rosicky playing middle left, he can instantly take the left wing if Walcott vacates the wing and goes up front. Helb is going to drift inside anyways, but if he starts on the wing he can create problems there as well. I think Rosicky possesses more movement internally than Hleb, whereas Hleb is trickier on the ball. Rosicky in the middle is always passing quickly then looking to get into a different position to get the return pass. He also possesses a better shot than Hleb, that's why I put him in the middle.
Arsenal are a fluid team, they are not locked into their positions. Rosicky, Hleb and Fabulous are always going to be rotating around when the play together, which is great. Walcott can be a danger attacking from the deep wing (dare I say Titi like?) or up top playing off of Ade. BTW, there was a time in the Bolton game where Wallcott collected the ball on the wing after Sagna lost the pall and beat 4 players to put in a great ball across the 6 yard box. At this point in his career he is still going to be a winger/striker, not one or the other, hence me suggesting the 4-5-1 which could change to a 4-4-2 instantly.
But those are the players that should start, no doubt about it.
