I actually think Bremen outplayed us but we still won. Not often one can say that with a three goal margin...

Still, we deserved because we played smarter.

The guy on premiere said it best: "This is what happens when two teams who approach the game in the right way meet." Refreshing to see indeed.

I watched this on Setanta, until a score of 4-3 or so the commentator said "What a great advert for German football", afterwards he dropped that line because it was obvious what an incredibly immature brand of football we were witnessing...This is an amateur scoreline, Thomas Schaaf needs to have a look at his tactics.

Great to see Gomez on fire, though.

true indeed. Entertainment guaranteed but if we had to show this game to others and said this is a top clash between last season's Champion and the heavyweight of BL, I am sure they would laugh like hell. In fact, I think I'm going to laugh as well if I get my recording on this match later on.

Professional or not, it was very entertaining. A win is a win, and with that scoreline I'll sure take it! :p

I hear that there is a statue of Zico somewhere in Tokyo, is there going to be a statue of Super Mario in some Stuttgart plaza...:D

Great game, good football and plenty of goals, keep those coming regularly and we may see you guys in European competition next year yet.

Well...to be fair to the premiere guy he went on to say that one team neglected its defensive duties more than the other.

Although our defense is still looking very shaky as well it doesn't matter if you score 6 goals. :D

Nonetheless, the statement is still relevant. Both Stuttgart and Bremen are devoted to playing attacking football, at least recently. If one wants to see successful "tactical football", he or she should watch the snoozefest HSV ;)

Well, after having had time to think things over, here are my thoughts on the game:

Obviously it was a great result. The game was amazing, a once-every-10-years match, and beating Bremen by three goals is an enormous achievement regardless of the circumstances. That the scoreline was 6-3 was odd, but fine in my book.

I have one main reason why I think we were able to do so well and score 6 goals: Bremen are a very attack-minded side, they always go for the win no matter who they are playing. We are a side that works best on the counter-attack, that is what won us the title last season and with teams playing more defensively against us this year, it has been hard to play the way our team plays best. But Bremen went all-out throughout the game and this played right into our hands, allowing us to do what we do best - all of our six goals(besides the own goal) were very nicely played out. Some situations, like when we scored the 4-2 seconds after the 3-2, were goals set up in a way that no defense could have scored. We still look bad defensively(only 14th in the league in defense...) but we showed on Saturday that we're still able to play excellent football. Bremen dominated most of the game, but ultimately I think their loss can be attirbuted to bad tactics - why they pushed forward so much throughout the game is beyond me, especially since they were playing away. I really respect Thomas Schaaf, there are few managers of his pedigree in the Bundesliga, but on this day, I think he got his orders wrong.

I think this win was very important, really helps forget about the Jena result, that we scored 6 goals will give the side enormous confidence, but most importantly that we came from a goal behind to win - this happened often last season but this year the boys just haven't been able to turn things around as well. That they managed to do this against Bremen of all sides really is an achievement and should give us some steam.

An excellent result and, attacking atleast, we played some excellent football, though we were obviously aided by Bremen's 0-7-3 formation.

We must look forward to the Cottbus game now, it's coming up tomorrow, these games are not a foregone conclusion, we will have to play differently than we did against Bremen and hopefully we can pull out a win. If we do, we'll be back in the UI-spots, right behind Schalke, and ahead of ScheissKSC :D - lots keep the momentum going

About the team:
The defense was still horrid. Ulreich couldn't really be blamed for any of the goals, but didn't do anything great either. On the left side of defense I still prefer Magnin over Boka, he's just more solid and in my opinion better going forward too. The central defense is a mess. Delpierre played terribly, caused Bremen's 2-2 through a deflection and Tasci wasn't good either. If Meira's back for the Cottbus game, i'd still take a Meira-Delpierre partnership over Tasci atm. We know these are good defenders, they proved that in the last 2 seasons before this year(1 season in Tasci's case), we just need to find what they've been missing this season. On the right I though Osorio was no good, but it was his first game since coming back to fitness so I'll accept it, hopefully he can improve in the next matches :) .

In midfield, Pardo wasn't great, his loss caused the first goal, but he's still a solid guy to have in the lineup. Hilbert should be a secure starter in my opinion, I was surprised he was on the bench and it was good he came on early. Basturk played well overall, helped some counters, his first assist was poor but Gomez dealt with it, the second assist was a nice pass to Cacau. Hopefully it's a sign that things are improving with him. da Silva I was saying in the last weeks should get a starting 11 chance. He's unlucky that he got taken off so early, it wasn't a proper opportunity, since Basturk played alright Toni will have to stay on the bench, but he'll get more chances in the coming games I hope.

In attack, Gomez is simply brilliant. He did excellently to get to the ball before Wiese on the first goal, making a run to it where most strikers wouldn't have even bothered to attempt to get to the ball, and then putting the ball in before Naldo could block it. Excellent. His second goal as well was excellent, the way that despite Basturk's poor pass he got it in. The third was a tap-in, but his setup for Cacau's first goal was great as well. World Class performance. Cacau was excellent after coming on, scored two very nice goals, gave a good assist, couldn't ask for more. He's now back to prime fitness and should be back in the starting 11 ASAP. Problem is, he won't be because he's banned for the Cottbus game after getting a 5th yellow. So it'll Marica who plays. Marica is still promising, he has his moments, the backheel to Gomez was very nice, but he's still not good enough at scoring goals, and again, I don't mean finishing, I mean being at the right place at the right time. He doesn't create himself enough chances, he's not instinctive enough. Hopefully this part of his game will improve, and if it does, he could become a very good striker.

Bayern won't try to buy him. Not unless they sell Podolski and that's not happening.

If Stuttgart sells, you can bet it will be to Juve or someone of that stature.

If he can keep his form, I'm sure we'll eventually see him at Barca. He's always said that he'd love to play there at some point. But his contract still lasts until 2012, so I do think that we'll have one or two more years together

It very much depends on his performance at Euro 2008 and for Germany generally. As long as he plays for Stuttgart only, he'll continue to be underrated/below the radar internationally at least to some extent.
