The thing is that Hitzlsperger couldn't play for a couple of weeks after being played in the NT when injured. So in that case I can really understand the criticism. Especially with all the other injuries that were going on at that time. I haven't heard of any other instance where Veh/Heldt complained about the NT/Löw.

I know to say "Stuttgart aren't the only ones" is not a defense, but there is something in your your paragraph that I think would justify Stuttgart's anger.

If it is just a friendly, why play Hitzlsperger despite injury? If it is just a friendly, why play a kid for over 45 minutes if his club doesn't want it??

What is at stake in a friendly?? If the kid is up for a spot and his club doesn't want him to play long enough to earn the spot, tell the kid to talk to his club.

Stuttgart aren't the only club who has ever discouraged players from attending CONCACAF/CONMEBOL tournaments. Mainz blacklisted Conor Casey after he played for the USA in a Gold Cup tourney and got hurt doing it.

Again, not a defense, but when you use that as a reason for disliking a club, I take it you dislike everyone who has ever done it???

The NT doctor was keen to clarify that Hitzlsperger didn't play despite injury, he got injured during the match. Shit happens, not only to Stuttgart.

To me, international friendlies are important. Who defines they are not? In fact, I'd much rather have more friendlies against the big guns than play qualification games against San Marino.

I always dislike it if club people disdain international competitions, and I dislike it more if they are aggressive about it, but just to clarify again, I clearly hold sympathy for Stuttgart as a club, in fact mainly since Löw's great spell there in the 1990s.

Btw, Veh/Heldt didn't say a word later on in 2007 when Gomez went to the NT despite their injury troubles and his lack of form because he wanted to recommend himself for Euro 2008. Gomez is THE MAN at VfB. ;)

Or maybe they've learned their lesson ;)

Even though i'd love to continue celebrating the derby victory we unfortunately have to change our concentration today onto something else. We've got a very important game coming up 2 hours from now: at home vs. Jena in the German Cup. We really are the huge favourites and I think on our present form we're not gonna throw this away. Nevertheless, a game takes 90 minutes and we're gonna have to see them off on the field.

I wouldn't mind seeing some experimentation in the side today since we really should be able to overcome them. Perhaps Osorio could make his comeback into the first team after his suspension? Also, I hope da Silva will take Basturk's spot as creator. But then again, Veh could play Basturk and if he doesn't produce tonight then he really should be benched. Finally, I wouldn't resting Gomez. Neither Cacau nor Marica have had goal-rich seasons. It would be great if one of them could start really banging them in now - Cacau scored this weekend which is a good sign. So I wouldn't mind seeing the two of them start tonight. Also, it would be about time that Radu finally makes an appearance for us in a competitive game, so hopefully he'll come in as a substitute atleast.

We should keep on eye on Simak on the Jena side - if we really are going to buy him, it would be worth checking out how he performs tonight.

I'm really looking forward to this match. If we win this one it's three wins in a row, and a ticket to the semifinals! And that only means one thing - we'd be one game away from being able to travel to the best away-game on the German schedule, and 2 games away from a Cup victory! We should take tonight seriously, and if we do, we won't have problems overcoming Jena.

32: 1-0 CZ-Jena through a goal by Werner.

4 minutes earlier Basturk had hit the post.

The worst possible event has happened. Luckily we still have time, if we get out act together now we've got enough minutes left to get back into the game. But we really need to concentrate now.

Absolutely pathetic that we let them score though, typical lack of concentration in defense

Ausgleich!

Of course it's Gomez! (81')

Can't watch the game in the US, but following a ticker. Seems like we are playing pretty poorly again, but this goal at least gives us a chance

I have to follow on ticker as well since no one can broadcast it.

I'm so relieved!

But we must keep pushing! Including extratime we have 35 minutes to score a goal! We can do that! Let's go!

well, we're out of the pokal...

da Silva missed his penalty and Jena made all of theirs...

We've been pretty pathetic in the Pokal this year against less than quality opponents and we finally get what is coming to us.:(

I haven't been this depressed since we lost to Bayern in Sammer's last game.

The whole team, Gomez aside, need to think over what the ******** they just did. I'm out.

Congratulations to Jena.

Class responses here. I am sorry for you guys that VfB lost. I can't say I'm totally sorry because I can hope that BVB will get to take Jena on in the semis.

Good to see that you guys have responded with class.

I'm sorry for you, but I can't remember a bigger disgrace in the younger Cup history...

Losing as champion at home to the 2nd league bottom team is simply unbelievable! But don't forget you were very lucky against Paderborn before...

You're just enjoying rubbing this in, aren't you? As classy as they are being about the loss, you're being an a-hole about it.

Sorry, but all I said is the truth. Where did I make any offensive statement?

This was a total disgrace for the German champion ... believe me or not.

Guys, I am sorry. I am apologizing to you for engaging "Borussia" about his comments here. That was not my place. I am not apologizing to him because I still think his comments were of a$$hole quality.

I just don't see your loss tonight as a "disgrace." This is the German Cup. Anything can happen.

Again, I respect you guys' comments after the match. I think you were very classy.
