I would find it hard to believe you guys are paying more than one dude 3M per.

I just think that has to bother some of the guys who got that team to where it is.

To have a guy who has done next to nothing in the past four years come in and be handed 3M per can't be good for team chemistry........

So are we laying total blame for this season's results at his feet (Basturk and/or Heldt?)

2 years ago Meira got a good contract to convince him to stay. Last year the
same was done with Delpierre. They should both have similar income to Bastürk.
VfB Stuttgart was already paying well in the Bundesliga and further raised wages
after becoming champion last year so envy shouldn't be a problem.

Last month Magnin reportetly demanded a 2,5 m. contract and only after a
lack of good offers from other clubs signed an extension on 2 m. / year.
Just to illustrate that wage structure is not that low at Stuttgart.

Bastürk also isn't the only one with a guaranteed starting spot. Gomez,
Cacau, Hitzlsperger, Pardo, Khedira, Hilbert, Delpierre, Meira and until last
week Schäfer enjoy the same privilege. Some of them while performing much
worse than Bastürk.

So if we have a moral problems I don't think Bastürk is the main cause.
Still thinking (hoping) that the team will get it's act together soon.

I'm certainly not.

We've got a game away to Duisburg, the bottom of the table side, coming up in 20 minutes. For some reason, despite our horror show last weekend, I believe we'll win this one.

Ulreich will almost surely remain in goal over Schaefer. Osorio is still banned so Beck will probably start at right back, although there is a small possibility that Hilbert will take the rightback spot. In central defense, Delpierre's injury should mean that Tasci makes a hurried return from injury to start alongside Meira today. And at leftback, boka is now back. I'd still go for Magnin in that spot but perhaps Boka will get the nod.

In defensive midfield, Pardo should definitely start since Khedira didn't do well there last week. Hitzlsperger will undoubtedly begin at leftmid. On the right mid spot, i'd say hilbert will play unless he moves to rightback, in which case Khedira could play there. Basturk will be our creator.

In attack, i'm guessing it'll be Gomez and Cacau chosen over Marica and Radu.

Duisburg are really not a good team, if we play anywhere near what we're capable of, we'll win. The question is, are we able right now, to play anywhere near what we're capable of? I'm not sure we are. But I still think we should win this.

And who would've thought, we're playing well, and deservedly leading 2-0 at halftime :). Super Mario scored both goals :)

So we're 2-0 up at halftime, looking solid, and barring any major screw ups in the second half, we should be able to get our first 3 points of the Rueckrunde.

And well, it only took 12 minutes of the second half to provide enough major screw ups for Duisburg to bring it back to 2-2. I don't see us winning now.

VfB is on track to being the laughing stock of the day this season once again...

Hitzlsperger in der Nachspielzeit!

I don't care if this is only Duisburg...these kind of wins are the ones that can give us momentum. Lucky, but 3 points nonetheless and someone besides Gomez scored!

OMG, I couldn't believe it :D

Still, lots of criticisms to be made for this performance, but I think i'll make them tomorrow, for now i'm just over the moon!

Bring it on Scheiss KSC :D

Me neither. :-)

I think you are a showbag this season! ;) Congrats on the important last-minute win.

Well, what can I say about the game anyway?

The first half we played very well and I was really pleased. Really, the game should've been decided by then as we had played well, taken a two goal lead, and Duisburg had been anything but first division material. Then in the second half, typically, we got one goal and then our defense fell apart again. It took Duisburg 12 minutes in the second half to make up all the damage we had caused in the entire game up to that point. Now, no one should be mistaken, to give up a 2 goal lead against the LAST AND WEAKEST TEAM in the Bundesliga is rather pathetic, and totally unacceptable.

From that point on we were the worse team, and we were lucky that we didn't lose since Duisburg hit the post in the last 10 minutes. We were then even more lucky that, when the game was virtually over and we had already basically accepted another horror second and a point, we were able to score out of nowhere and win the game.

I was thrilled we won, and especially the way we won may finally give the players the confidence and motivation that have been so seriously lacking for most of this season. So it's a great result, but we were very fortunate it turned out the way it did, we shouldn't forget that, and without a doubt our defense was not up to standard once again.

Meira was solid but Tasci did very poorly I felt. Admittedly he had just returned from injury so he may not have been in tip-top shape, but i'm assuming with Delpierre's suspension now over we can expect to see a Meira-Delpierre partnership in the derby. Beck hasn't been great, unless he plays very well again KSC, we can expect Osorio to return to the first team one his suspension ends after next weekend.

In midfield, i'm especially dissappointed in Basturk. He's no longer injured, he's now played some part in 12 Bundesliga matches. He has one goal to show for it, no assists, and an average kicker-rating of 4.00. I'd start him against Karlsruhe, but if he doesn't up his game there I say he should be out of the first team, as he really hasn't shown why we bought him up to this point. Hilbert on the other hand played a good game, and I was pleased to see him return to form.

Gomez continues to be our life-saver, he is one player who has remained on form all season long. The question remains who do we partner him with. Cacau and Marica have both had chances, as of yet neither one has demonstrated that they deserve the spot next to him over their counterpart. Radu hasn't played a single minute for us in the league yet and i'm already starting to wonder why we bought him. But I guess he will receive his chance soon enough, atleast as a sub.

Now we must focus completely on destroying blue-white next weekend.

After taking a break from this thread (it was just too depressing) I'm back ;)

And I have brought a new rumor. According to "Bild", Stuttgart is interested in Jan Simak. Let's see how that develops...

I don't want him anyway to be honest, I don't see how he'd be the creative force we're looking for.

More importantly:

32 hours to the derby, it's time for us to wake up and kick blue-white ass :D

Ich glaube Stuttgart kann gewinnen, aber Ich tippe auf ein Unentschieden!:)

A draw would be too little for me. First of all, it's a derby. Second of all, it's a homegame for us. Third of all, we're quite a bit behind them in the standings. For these three reasons, I would be satisfied with nothing less than a win for our beloved VfB :)

Is Schaefer injured, or what is the reason, that is he on the bench ?

Because he's sucked most of the season.

And it was tough to write because I backed him before the season. However fact is fact. There is no defense for him. He has sucked so far this season.

I guess he wasn't ready to be in the spotlight at a big club.......
