Why does that story say that Cacau is out for 12 weeks? Isn't that 4 weeks longer than what was said before?

Think Radu might be too old though. Isn't he 32? Although he is a stirker that uses his intelligence more than his speed, which means he could still do a job...and he might be for a very small fee as well.

oh ok. Then yea, he could be a good signing. Not too sure if he's a one year wonder though. He also might need Munteanu to come with him as well ;)

great start with da Silva in the 3rd minute, but we've been under siege and gave up the equilizer. looking at the line-up, we're sitting Hilbert and Hitzlsperger on the bench and Pardo is apparently not even dressed for the game. Sounds like we're seeing what some of the other lads can do with quality minutes against a strong team. If they can get a draw, I think it would be good, and I think it would be valuable to give da Silva and Farnerud the minutes so they are more ready when needed in league matches.

I think we're playing surprisingly well considering how many people are being rested!
Schaefer's been brilliant so far, making lots of good saves, da Silva and Farnerud have both been quite good so far, Marica's been a threat, Basturk's been solid, Ewerthon has played alright too.
The only one I can complain about is Boka. He's been horrible so far. Huge mistake that caused the 1-1 equalizer, and even besides that he's looked constantly insecure when defending. But then again, I guess having Ronaldinho always around you can do that to players.
I'll be happy if we can get a result here, would be cool even if it means nothing :) But if we lose I also won't mind as long as the players do alright.

Well, we lost 3-1. In the second half Barca really showed that their a class apart from us. No matter really, now we must concentrate on the relevant game against Bielefeld on the weekend.

Vfb a bit unlucky, the 1-1 was hand (arm) but the 3-1 is deserved for Barca,
Overall an ok performance for VfB in the last game.

That Barca did. No matter what EE says below.
What match were you watching EE??
VfB "a bit unlucky?" I don't think so.....
Outclassed, yes, unlucky? Hell no!
No matter really, now we must concentrate on the relevant game against Bielefeld on the weekend.
It won't be as easy as BVB's thrashing of them. That team will be wanting to fight hard to go into the winter break on a positive note.
You guys should win, but I hope you're ready for a fight......

I don't think EE said we were unlucky on the whole, he said we were unlucky at the 1-1 when Barca scordd an illegal goal. Which is true, and he also went on to note that they deservd to win, so I agree with him overall :)
The Bielefeld game I agree won't be easy, we will have to give our all to win and not let them surprise us. We'll see how it goes.

What a great goal by da Silva though. He had a nice shot from distance later too, but the keeper saved it.
@Vfbstuttgartfan: I actually think Boka did fairly well except that error on the equalizer. Playing against ronaldinho is not easy after all.

That's what I meant. I watched that thing six times. Didn't look illegal to me or the Premiere announcers.

That's all any team can do......

dunno, he slipped up quite a few other times, though they were never punished. He was fairly good going forward, but in defense he just didn't cut it for me on Wednesday, I feel more comfortable at the moment with Magnin playing leftback instead.

Btw, I would like to add a congratulations to our supertalent Manuel Fischer for making his professional debut n the last 20 minutes, against Barca of all teams. He's very young and a real megatalent. Next season, may be a little too early, but I predict by the 2009/2010 season people will be hearing his name very often :)

hi,
could Vfbstuttgartfan or anyone else give me their opinion on andreas hinkel as it's being reported in both kicker and the spanish press that we're(celtic) close to completing a deal for him from sevilla for 3mill euro's.
your opinons on him would be welcome.
cheers

I'm sure vfbstuttgartfan can add to this, but I guess I'll have my say too...
Andi Hinkel was a great talent for VfB, part of Die Jungen Wilde who made it to the Champion's League and beat Man Utd. We sold him before the 06/07 season to Sevilla and, as far as I know, he sat on the bench ever since. That being said, I have no idea how well he plays now. My guess is that he has been just rotting away on the Sevilla bench.
He was always known for his attacking prowess, often making runs down the right side and crossing it in. I'm sure if he moves to Celtic (which I hope he does, instead of Wolfsburg) and gets regular playing time, he will find that old form from his "young" days in Stuttgart.

With 30 minutes left we're playing out a real bore draw away to Bielefeld 0-0. To be honest I can already see this being the endscore since neither team seems to really want to give their all for a win. There might be a lucky goal on one of the sides, but we'll see.
I'm not confident.

You said it all practically :)
although I will add that Hinkel was fairly mediocre in the last 1.5 years before he moved away from us, so adding that to the Sevilla time and it's really been 3 years since he's played consistently very well. But he undoubtedly had/has talent and, in the right place, I think he could still be a very good asset to the squad.
He's a very solid player with the potential to be a great defender, but you'll need to work hard to get it all out of him.

thanks for the replies lads.
if, and it's looking likely we will, we do sign him then he'll be first team for certain. we're really struggling for full backs at the minute. three are out injured and we're playing either youngsters or centre backs at both left and right.
can hinkel play both right and left back?

Just rightback afaik.
For the record, Pardo now got a red card so we're down to 10 men for the last 15 minutes. :( - Jeez, now I may even be satisfied with a draw.
