Losing Gomez AND Cacau is a big blow. At least Marica seems to have found his form recently. On the positive side, even though Cacau will be out for quite some time, given the fact that it's "only" a shoulder injury, I guess he'll be able to start training early on (compared to say a torn ligament). So the winter break might not be completely lost for him.

I guess now is the time when Ewerthon has to prove himself. Otherwise it might be a chance for Manuel Fischer. Although I've read that Veh is thinking about a new signing.

Good for you that there's only 1 game left until the winter break ... so you should be able to compensate it (especially as Marica finally starts scoring).

Congrats on the win!

Of all names, i've been hearing rumours of Podolski circulating all over the place.

I dunno about you guys, but I don't want no one from "that side"

I don't see how we could afford him anyway, but yeah, it's a rumour going around atm.

From what I've seen, Podolski is being mostly linked to Bremen, Schalke and Wolfsburg.

Where are you hearing Stuttgart being mentioned?

The VfB Forum ( :D ) and Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper.

I agree it's a long shot that he'd end up here and, to be honest, i'm absolutely fine with that.

Well, I think a new striker doesn't make sense at all. I mean with Gomez and Cacau we have a great team up front and Marica has a lot of potential as well. The only possible scenario would be that Gomez will definitely leave the team at the end of the season. Stuttgart has made it clear that they won't force anybody to stay. So if let's say Juve has made an offer he (and the VfB) couldn't refuse we'd need someone else. In that case Podolski could make a lot of sense and we'd have more than enough money from Gomez.

I think you had it right in your first sentence. It doesn't make any sense at all.

They couldn't plan for a Gomez departure before next season right now anyhow because even if Gomez did want to leave, they would need the proceeds from his sale to finance a Podolski transfer.

But there are no indications that Gomez is going anywhere, so there's no need to stir up worry over nothing.

I think fans just come up with any rumor they can when they see a potential problem and the reporters have to sell newspapers.

Even Bremen and Schalke both know they have to secure passage to the next round of the CL to make a Podolski purchase worthwhile.

This Podolski thing will really pick up after Bremen and Schalke's CL matches on Tuesday, but I doubt any of the worthwhile rumors will involve VfB Stuttgart......

No there aren't and I'm glad about it.

I've now read the Veh quote that started all those rumors and I think that a lot of interpretation went into it: "We might have to come up with something concerning our strikers after the winter break."

Now this can mean a whole lot of different things, like playing a different formation or another young talent like Fischer. But newspapers need to keep their readers interested by coming up with glamorous scenarios.

I don't see Gomez leaving within the next 12 months, he's got a long contract and I don't see anyone wanting to pay the huge amount that will be demanded for him since his contract still runs for 3-4 seasons(can't remember how long exactly).

Plus, Gomez seems happy here, he's loved and respected by everyone, he's one of the stars of the side and came up from the VfB youth ranks, so I don't think we need to worry about him leaving too soon :)

Interesting news ahead of our last Bundesliga match of the year this coming weekend is that Bielefeld just fired Ernst Middendorp after their 6-1 loss to Dortmund, so Bielefeld will be led by teir assistant coach against us.

But before that is the came on Wednesday in the legendary Camp Nou. Should we play our first side, give our best for our honour in what'll be a very tough match to come away from with any points, or should we just concentrate on the game that matters, the BL game next weekend, and field a mainly experimentary side against Barca?

We've seen what happened to Bayern when they fielded a B-team against Bolton ;)

I think we should give our very best against Barca. If we lose it won't make much of a difference anyway, but if we win, the confidence boost will be beyond anything a couple of rested players could offer us in our last game this year.

I've just seen some of the press speculation about Podolski. I still don't buy it.

Other rumors I've seen have VfB interested in Schlaudraff (who I don't think Bayern is sending to anyone) and Chelsea's Claudio Pizarro.

My sources said Wolfsburg for Podolski, but he's been wrong before, but right more often than wrong.

Both Wolfsburg and Bremen are known to be interested. Are you saying your guy says a deal is done?

My guy just said "I expect Podolski at Wolfsburg after the break". That's all he said.

The "wonderful Bild" might be right on.....

As I said some messages ago, I don't think Bayern are letting Schlaudraff go anywhere, much less to a club that might become a title contender.

However, Milan Baros could possibly fit VfB's budget and could play a role on the team next season.

Hmmm, i've now heard three new names just from going over this thread today

Could you guy give some links please? And, would these transfers be in the winter or at the end of the season?

Three big names there, Pizarro would be awesome imo, I rate him as a very good attacker :) , while Baros has two sides a good and a bad one, and Schlaudraff would prolly fit in since he's another "young gun" just like many others on the side, but I worry a little that buying a player like him could affect chemistry, we could see he didn't help the mood in Aachen last season and he hasn't been at Bayern long and there's already transfer speculation...

Now that one would also be great for VfB!!!
