A player's market value is basically his price tag for teams wanting to buy out his contract. It doesn't necessarily mean that the team would be willing to sell him for that price, though. It's basically a value assigned by the various federations and is used 1) as a starting point if a team wants to discuss a transfer fee, and 2) a value used if there is a disagreement between two clubs over a player.
