There isn't enough media on the internet to consume so please allow me to use you guys as food for my thought.

I believe you get 11 spots to protect. Who's it gonna be?

Go ask a team whose season isn't over.

TI believe you get 11 spots to protect. Who's it gonna be?

For the Revs it's a no-brainer since these are the only players we use.

Twellman
Noonan
Ralston
Reis
Joseph
Parkhurst
Thompson
Christman
Dorman (Heaps if Dorman oesn't resign)
Riley
Smith

Now lets get back to the road to being MLS Cup Champs.

Um, because our season's not over and you're already looking at who your expansion team is going to poach from us?

Let us finish out the season first. Go talk to fans of teams' whose seasons have ended.

I believe you get 11 spots to protect. Who's it gonna be?We only play 11.5 players all year, so it shouldn't be hard to figure out.

No Larentowicz? No need for Smith to be protected. It's easy enough to find people who can hold up play until the double team comes and then pass the ball to the sign board.

There's a good reason for protecting Smith. If it wasn't ********ed up that people are talking about this right now, I'd let everyone in on why we'll have to.

oh yeah, that's exciting. RSL, TFC, sexy baby. Rapids bore me. Crew are alright though.

I wont ask the scum.

You're on of the best in the league. Take it as a compliment that I ask who you'd protect.

No Larentowicz?

Oooops my bad. Of course we will protect Larentowicz. :D

If teams are allowed to protect their 11 best players how can the expansion teams get any considerable talent?

oops how did I forget Larentowitz too (excuse the spelling)

I would remove Wells Thompson from my list

I would remove Heaps (no up side) and keep Thompson (big upside)

Players we can afford to loose (we will likely only lose one):
Heaps
John
Leonard
Franchino

WE clearly need to bring in one or more solid defenders and losing any of the above will open up roster slots and Cap space.

I wonder if Heaps' new contract is a bit of a poison pill for SJ.

Yup...people have to remember that contracts and age come into this - it's not just about protecting the 11 best players. Heaps, Noonan, John & Dorman are all canidates for being left unprotected because of things like age, injuries, expiring contracts and/or large salaries.

These 6 will have to be protected:

Reis
Riley
Parkhurst
Joseph
Larentowicz
Twellman

These 4 will likely be protected:

Ralston
Christman
Thompson
Smith

One of these 4 will be protected, largely dependant on how John and Dorman's contract situations play out:

Heaps
John
Noonan
Dorman

Lee

Are there any protections for the young guys - YI's, GA?

I'd hate to have to expose Igwe before we know what he can do.

Keep in mind, that the gold in expansion drafts are good-young-cheap players. Therefore, guys like Riley, Larentowicz, Christman, etc. are at the top of the protected list.

I don't think we're going to leave Heaps unprotected. Odds are Avery John and Andy Dorman (at least one) will end up in San Jose.

GAs are protected, other devs aren't unless they are part of the 11.

The rules for the last (Toronto) expansion draft are here. (http://mls.webstrider.com/2006/ExpansionDraft.html)
