Has anybody seen him play with the u-18 national team? How would you rate him compared to the rest of the players on the u-18 squad. He goes to the high school I just graduated from and also plays for the same club I do just a year younger so I've played wit him quite a bit. While he isn't the fastest or most skillful player around he gets the job done. Yet people around here question his ability to play on the national team yet he was named MVP of the tournament they played in in
France and won defensive mvp at ESP. Somebody fill me in so that I can put all the haters to rest.

I'd say that you're pretty much clueless because I don't recall anybody ripping him up in here.

Misunderstanding(you didn't really specify). Too bad you didn't come here before the crash, we had a fairly in depth report of the U18s against the U20s(I think) as well as some reports of who played well in France.
I don't even remember what position he plays but from your description he sounds like a defensive midfielder.

He's more of a central defender but played d middie for high school. He was in the Long Island showcase this past weekend playing with Oakwood SC. Anybody get a chance to see him play or the rest of the tournament for that matter??

From a previous post in regards to the U18's trip to France and Spain:
Standouts from the U18's last trip were
Craig Capano (Attacking Mid) Golden Boot - France Arturo Alvarez (A-Mid/Forward)
Will Hall (D-Mid), Captain
Pat Phelan (Center Back) MVP-France Tournament
Team won the tournament in France and if I remember correctly - tied Spain in a friendly.

I have been fortunate enough to see Patrick play many times at his clubs indoor facility in Connecticut. From my standpoint he is the best player that the club has had in 10 years and most certainly the best they have this year. I read up on him on the gatorade website and he has quite a list of credentials. Says he is a 3 time NSCAA Adidas All-American (Yout), and a 2 time high school, ESP All-Star 2 years (defensive mvp in 2002), Parade All-American, mvp of tournament in france with U-18's. Has only missed one national team camp in the last 2 years. He appears to be a very gifted student and from what those who know him well say, he is very underrated as an athlete. He may be a little heavyfooted but he more than makes up for it with his vision and composure.
