The announcement and rules were posted two weeks ago in the tourney thread:
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12948496&postcount=17
Although there were a couple of leads with some extraordinary products, still no success with any sponsors, so the tourney name remains the same for now, Blech's Eliminator Cup or BE-Cup as it is known to the locals. BE-Cup kicks off this coming weekend during GW11. Yermom from Sand League is the team not registered in the Olympics league. Contrary to the original post, I am going to include Yermom's score manually to bring the total number of teams to 32 and thereby include all teams from all Rocks' leagues. As a result, the initial schedule is adjusted as follows: two teams will be eliminated this gameweek (as well as in GW 12 and GW 13 as previously announced). After that, it's one team per week. (I'm doing this for Yermom b/c it's only one team, and happens to be in my league so I'll be checking that site anyway; if others drop out of Olympic, I reserve the right to drop them immediately, or even to announce that I've changed my mind about including Yermom if it becomes a bigger hassle than I'm expecting).
To clarify the first tie-breaker, "bonus captain points" refers to the doubling of the captain points, not the "bonus points" that might be earned by the captain, although that would be another interesting way of doing things. But, basically, the first tiebreaker is going to ask what would happen if you did not have a captain designation - so, effectively, the team whose captain scored fewer points is that team that will be staying as that team had more "pure" points.
Good luck to all. BE-Cup starts this weekend.

With the scores for GW 10 now final, I did a test run and it looks like all will work smoothly. FYI, London Lawn Gnomes (24 points) avoids being the first team eliminated by virtue of the decision to wait until GW 11 to start. On the tiebreaker, another Sand team, Gunners320 (24 points) would have survived this week, as it got 0 points from Captain Torres, while LLG got 2 points, including the doubling, from Captain C.Ronaldo. I suppose, not surprisingly, if you're in the battle for low score, you're not likely to have many captain points.
Again, good luck to all next week, when the BE-Cup games count, we find out who are the first two teams eliminated, and we find out what impact if any it had to allow Yermom to participate!

Great job geting this going, cool concept...my lawyers have not heard back from your people on the sponsorship deal...despite the delivery of other pork bones in a plain manilla envelope....really how hard is it to disallow Wiiiiggguuummm's participation on some technicality or another:confused::confused:

I can't see me getting past Christmas in this one as I'm usually away and can't always update my team in time during the Holiday period. I'm usually the lowest scorer in at least one of those weeks.

Lobo - we've allowed you and your circus to participate in all our leagues and cups for a few years now. If that isn't the biggest technacality out there, I dont know what is.

BE-Cup Round 1 (GW 11) says farewell to .....
32. Pork Soda (23 points)
31. London Lawn Gnomes (26 points)
In a shocking turn of events, Pork Soda becomes the very first team to be eliminated from the BE-Cup. No one showed up at the post-game press conference, but the team did provide the following release: "We've never had much luck with that Blech guy anyway, so we knew going in that the odds would be against us in any tourney he was hosting. And call it skill or bad luck, but what are the odds of having all 11 of your players play in their games, and then still ending up with only 23 points. We'd like to blame it on injuries. But we really just played poorly this week. And we'd like to say it was fun while it lasted. But it wasn't. Until next year."
And, you'll recall that London Lawn Gnomes was team that would have been eliminated in GW 10 had the BE-Cup started last week. LLG did not take advantage of last week's reprieve, and now can only curse the decision to allow Yermom to participate, as there would otherwise have been only one elimination this week. LLG is the first victim of the Yermom decision.
One thing both PS and LLG had in common was a first position on draft day and a captain named C. Ronaldo. His 2 points (doubled to 4) left these teams in a bind.
Taking a quick look at the three teams in the "danger zone", the cries for Wiggum's early elimination fall just short, as FC Springfield (30) ends up just outside the elimination zone, along with late-invitee Yermom (33) and Boomkicker (37). Of course, in the BE-Cup, being third from the bottom is no different than being Olympic Champion, as both advance to next week with a clean sheet. There are no bonus points for being first. That said, last week's danger zone produced one of this week's eliminees. With 30 teams remaining, the question on everyone's mind is whether these three teams can step it up next week, when the next two teams are eliminated.

For once I must thank the all powerful bonus man, as the bonus points that Hleb and bonus-magnet Martin Laursen picked up took me through. Shocking to see one of the Powell brothers crash out so early - last year, they were the fantasy equivalents of the Neville's waking up one day with the skills of Kaka and Ronaldinho.

BE-Cup Round 2 (GW 12) says farewell to .....
30. Gunners320 (26 points)
29. The Class Acts (30 points)
28 teams remain. The Class Acts are the first team to be eliminated from the upper half of the table, but nonetheless pack their bags with an unusually off week. Coach Brian commented: "Well, at least we weren't the first to go."
Boomkicker (32 points) and Yermom (35) continue to flirt with elimination and remain in the danger zone for a second week in a row. Zola School (34) rounds out the danger zone.
Despite the special invitation into the Cup Competition, Yermom appears determined to be eliminated, leaving Lampard on his bench this past gameweek, in the #2 position no less. However, when captain Anelka did not play, that made room for a sub, and with #1 sub Jaidi never getting into his game, the computer forced Yermom to play Frank, and those 8 points catapulted him out of the elimination and allows him to stick around for at least one more week.
London Lawn Gnomes remains the team punished by the Yermom decision. As noted last week, LLG would not have been eliminated last week but for the Yermom decision, and then he would have avoided elimination this week as well, although just barely as 31 points would have been safe by just a single point.
And, in terms of league bragging rights, all 8 Dust teams remain alive.
Next week (GW 13) is the last double elimination week. Who will be the next two teams to go?

I see where I made my mistake. I made Ronaldo my captain here rather than Ethan Hawke. Ronaldo should've been my captain in my Celebrity Eyebrow Plucking Fantasty League rather than Hawke, while Hawke would definitely have more points than Ronaldo in an actual sporting competition.

My luck in these cup runs is miserable. Better last wk than this wk with my 6 players injured/doubtful to get KO.

Oh, you picked up quite a few wins on the bounce in the golden boot, you look good to make it to the second round.
Nice work on this Blech, these cup competitions do make the season a bit more interesting, as the whole league thing can sometimes go a bit 'stale' in mid season.

aaaaack! just looked at the interim scores for this week. difficult to know precisely where everyone stands with so many arsenal players on rosters of those at the bottom and several auto substitutions to be made, but barring some creative change in the rules (!!!) or some significant points from adebayor and hleb tomorrow, i may soon be announcing that i'm booted from my own Cup. :(

Here's hoping Adebayor comes good for you; with an hat-trick and two assists.

i don't want to say anymore at this point, as there is no [r] in the title, but i would state that it looks like the second elimination spot is likely going to come down to whether or not there is a shutout or not - at least two teams are on the edge of their seats!!!!
for future reference, the posting of instant results should be permitted in this thread, and i'd even ask if a mod can put an [r] in the title out of an abundance of caution. the final game of the week, particularly if there are multiple players going, can lead to a number of permutations.

And, then there were 26 remaining......
*27. Yermom (39 points - week 13)
*28. VCC (24 points - week 13)
29. The Class Acts (30 points - week 12)
30. Gunners320 (26 points - week 12)
31. London Lawn Gnomes (26 points - week 11)
32. Pork Soda (23 points - week 11)
While it was expected that "low" scores would increase as teams begin to be eliminated, this is a pretty large jump with an elimination with 39 points and all of the danger zone teams scoring in the 40's: Raytown Rangers (41), Cold Dog Soup (42), and Glorydaze (45) and Tally Road (45) (No reason to break for the danger zone).
Yermom's elimination after two consecutive weeks in the danger zone raises new questions about allowing Yermom's participation in the first place. However, unlike the Lawn Gnomes who are still eliminated because of the decision even though they would otherwise still be alive, Yermom's exit this week actually worked to save Raytown, who would have been eliminated this week without Yermom present to take that spot. Will Raytown take advantage of this reprieve and jump onto the Olympic podium shortly, following in the footsteps of some other recent danger zone teams or does this off week spell doom for the Rangers?
As referenced in prior posts, tourney organizer Blech scrambled out of the cellar, avoiding a last minute "look" through the rulebook for something about a 20-point bonus for the tourney organizer, if needed. VCC always had a lock on the first elimination seat this week, but the minute by minute breakdown of today's game shows the following scramble to avoid this week's second elimination spot, with 8 different teams having low scores but trying to save themselves with arsenal and/or reading players and get past one another and to the safety mark of 42. Raytown started the day with 41 points and had the lowest score of any of the teams without arsenal and reading players, and was going to have to watch every minute to see if the Rangers would survive.
At kickoff of the Arsenal-Reading game, blechs_dawgs was at 27 points and in the elimnation seat. By halftime, Hleb had an assist and Blech was up to 33 points, but still in the elimination seat - the other teams in the low 30s had moved to the mid-30s and beyond. At minute 52, when Adebayor scored, Blech jumped to safety. It was now Yermom who was looking at elimination with only 38 points, but within a stone's throw of Raytown's fixed score of 41. At minute 60, the additional playing time point and shut out bonuses kicked in. It was now Boston Spurs at 40 (but with 3 Reading players looking for a goal). Raytown was still sitting at 41, and had moved from having 8 teams between it and elimination to only having a one team cushion. And, Yermom at 43 points with Toure's shutout had moved to safety. But, then, at minute 87, Reading gets the consolation goal from Shorey. With Shorey in the lineup, that late goal lifted Boston Spurs out of the elimination zone entirely. Meanwhile, Yermom fell backwards to 39, while Raytown sat peacefully watching teams rise and fall on both sides, avoiding elimination, at least for this week. With no more goals in the remaining minutes of the game and injury time, it fell to watching bonus points, but none came to save Yermom, and Raytown breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Did you follow all of that? Close call for Raytown. Close call for Boston. It was a crazy week with all of the teams that had players in today's game..... I'm just happy to survive to see another week.
As a reminder, we are done with elimination of two teams per week. It's only one team next gameweek (and each gameweek thereafter). Good luck!
