As I mentioned a while back Denilson was in contract negotiations with the club. Arsenal have now confirmed he has signed a long-term deal.

Arsène Wenger believes Denilson is underrated.

The Arsenal manager is highly-delighted to have secured the 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder on a new long-term deal with the Club. For Wenger, it demonstrates the giant strides he has made since signing from Sao Paulo on transfer-deadline day last August.

“I am pleased, very pleased,” he said. “Denilson is a great player. For me, he is underrated. He does not get all the praise his performances suggest but that will come very quickly.

“He is the youngest player of our squad along with Armand Traore. He has played big games but he has shown he can cope with the pressure and produce quality performances. I expect him to make a big impact.”

ya read this in the sun (They got it right!)

so what is the future with denilson? are we grooming him to replace cesc (god forbid)? what about diaby (who will want a starting place soon)?

we are so freakin loaded at centre mids..

gilberto, flamini, cesc, denilson, diaby, diarra, who else am i missing here?
that is really deep, really young, and really talented.

Denilson I think will be Cesc's long-term replacement. He's shown me already he is uber-talented and will be an adequate replacement when Cesc gets rested or what have you. He is another gem, watching him is like watching Cesc find his feet in the Arsenal team all over again.

My biggest problem, is out of that list, I can't pick who would be the first to be sold if a bid came in.

Seems like a lot of good news from the club today. It's a smart move to sign him up for the long term, there are some great things to come from Denilson.

The funny bit is that Cesc is only 1 year older!

I'm glad he signed and wil be at Arsenal for awhile. Always good to know he is there when needed.

Not extremely pertintent to this topic, but I feel it's a shame we have to sign long-term replacements for 20-year-olds.

f*cking Barcelona and Real Madrid. I wish they'd f*ck off for once. I want Cesc for his whole career. :(

I think Arsene is trying to convert him into a RM.. He does possesses good technical ability and can pass and cross very well. I'd love to see more of him

Probably Gilberto, but I'm going out on a limb here. :D

Seriously, I know what you mean. Unless we go to a 4-5-1 we're going to have to let a couple of them go at some point. But it will probably be for big money, so it won't be a total loss.

I agree on all counts. I hope Cesc can see the forest for the trees and understand that Arsenal is a stellar place to be.

Barca and Real Madrid aren't going to provide him any more flavorful brand of football than he's getting to play at Arsenal.
