View Full Version : German Strikers?

Has Germany ever had two or three strikers who were considered World-Class at one time? I know they have used defense and discipline to win trophies, but have they ever had a few really exciting players up front?
And who is considered the best German forward of All-Time? The only German superstars I ever really hear of are Beckenbauer, Matthaus and Klinsmann.
This is now open to ridicule.

I thought the Germans are good at producing strikers. The current team probably does not have anyone near the German strikers.
Klinsmann & Biershoff in the mid-1990's
Klinsmann & Voller in 1990's
Rummenigge , Fischer, Hrubesch in the 80's
Then, you have Gerd Muller who was perhaps one of the best goal scorers in the history of the game. He scored more WC goals than any player in history.

Germany has always had good strikers, except for WC02, Klinsmann, Voller, and Bierhoff in the 90s were just great

Actually Germany had always good strikers.
The nowadays team and the one from the last World Cup were crap, just like the whole Cup.
I name a few.
Uwe Seeler, Gerd Müller, Helmuth Rahn, Jürgen Klinsmann, Klaus Fischer, Karl Heinz Rummenigge, Rudi Voeller, Oliver Bierhoff, Horst Hrubesch
Germany has scored 171 goal in World Cups only Brazil with 191 has more, and they have played 2 more World Cups.

Asamoah - born in Ghana
Klose - born in Poland
Neuville - born in Switzerland
I think the point srm was making is that these players were all born outside Germany yet play for your national team. That doesn't mean they aren't German of course, but it has nothing to do with skin colour, so using our black players was a poor example.
If you'd said Owen Hargreaves, on the other hand...... ;)

not really sure where you were going with that...
the german football team consists of german players coached and managed by germans :
Rudi Völler, Michael Skibbe, Erich Rutemöller
the english football team consists of english players
managed by swedes and coached by swedes and englishmen : Sven-Goran Eriksson. Tord Grip, Brian Kidd.
Ever heard of Eriksson???
Whereabouts in England was he born??

Um...A coach doesn't have to be from that country he coaches for. this is seen all the time and in my mind is OK.

so do i...football is a world game after all.
i was simply highlighting the hypocrisy of
sinner_ronald_monk's statement.
i think klose and neuville aren't bad players. not as good international players as say owen or van nistelroy (who are world class) but germany is definitely lacking something up front at the moment...they even brought back Bobic, who is a decent player, but a little past it for the international scene.
England has some great young players at the moment like rooney and defoe who definitely have the talent to become world class, which should help england up front. Owen is amazing, but heskey is not exactly consistent or a proven goal scorer and not the best partner for owen on the international scene...`
i think england and germany have similar problems in attack at the moment, insofar as they both need to find a good, solid, experienced and skillful striking partnership to lead either team to the Euro 2004 title...i think both teams have a good chance, and what a final it would be...
what do you guys think ?

Klose is a german born in Poland! Do you know German history? Half of Poland is actually old german territory which was given to Poland after WW2.
Neuville has a german father.
Asamoah is in Germany since he was a little child.

@dots
In my opinion England has better strikers in these days.
Our strikers are all to short and to slow but still technically not good enough.
Klose is awesome with his headers but thats it.
The hope is the next generation with Lauth, Kuranyi, Vorbeck etc.

I have no problem with that..... if Germany refuses to cap any of the above player because they were born in Poland, Ghana or Switzerland..... then, FIFA bans Germany for all football competation liked they did with South Africa.

Well 'Miroslav' doesn't sound like a typical German name to me - and whether or not half of Poland used to belong to Germany is irrelevant, since he was actually born in what is now Poland (otherwise England could claim that players born in the US, Australia etc are English, since they 'used to' belong to us).
Anyway, I never said they're not German - they are. I was just answering your point about our black players, who are all 100% English, i.e. born and raised in England. The colour of their skin is not relevant. All the black players on our team have got a better claim to being English than Owen Hargreaves does.

Those were no Colonies, those were german heartland.
A lot of germans are still coming from Russia and Kazachstan to germany, because those were all former german settlement-regions.
PS: Klose is a german name.

Being born in Germany does not mean you are automatically German as in the USA, Britain, France, etc.
I was born in Germany and I play as a striker, yet, I dont think they will stretch the laws for me cause I'm crap, even worse than Janker.
