Hello! I grew up playing soccer but didn't realize how big it was until the World Cup hit our shores in '94. I have never really lived in a town that had MLS and only recently did we get Fox Soccer Channel. But that was quickly scuttled by the birth of our son who--while reminding me of Wayne Rooney--makes it hard to have a moments peace to watch the beautiful game.
I am an EPL fan. I guess my allegiance is Arsenal because
1. I have read/re-read Fever Pitch about 10 times
2. Henry's hat trick was the day after my son was born (cheesy, I know)
At any rate, I love this forum. I always am seeking knowledge about strategy and history of the game. I don't know what to look for on the pitch.

Hi mate. Glad you're on board, even if it's for the Gunners! (I'm a Villa fan)
As what to look for on the pitch, it's all about what excites you in the game. For me, it's fast attacking football, throughballs - counter attacking and decent goalkeepers (being a 'keeper myself)

In trolling the boards, I can see that picking an EPL team is not to be taken lightly. In light of the seriousness of picking a team in the EPL, maybe it might be best if I just say that:
1. Arsenal tends to be about 80% of the football I watch. They are just always on.
2. Arsenal may be elite but they are still looking up ManU and Chelsea who have
a) huge bandwagon potential
b) Make up 19.9% of the other football on tv.
I like Everton's jersey's and their story about the Toffees is pretty cool. Any reason to support this team despite having never seen them play?
Tim Howard's there--that's something right?

Hello, I'm a huge Fulham fan manily because McBride, Bocanegra, Dempsey and Keller. Fulham caught my attention a few years ago when McBride was making headlines and I have been fan ever since. I love watching a good all around game with a strong defense and a excellent keeper.

Very good
I just look at an internet site which sells to anyone a percentage of professional football players.
And we look for the possibility of any of us to buy a percentage of a player as Figo, Messi, etc..?
I think it is an innovative concept, and I think it is worth looking at realplayermanager em.
The site is www.realplayermanager.com (http://www.realplayermanager.com)

Look for - players who have the ball under perfect control. The 'can make it talk'.
- forward thinking players. Players who get the ball and try to make a forward pass, like Iniesta. Not like Fat Frank Lampard
- Look at the formations before the game. Then look for them on the pitch. They game will begin to make much more sense

Great question. And only someone like me can answer.
Everton won the league in 1919, then some misunderstang and an assassination later, World War 1 broke out, cancelling the English league for a few years. They also won the league in 1939, just as Hitler was planning to invade the whole of Europe, cancelling the English league again for a few years.
This obviously means that when WW3 breaks out and everyone dies, Everton will be champions, so that will give you something to be happy about. However the possibilities are endless, like a meteorite destroying the world just as captain of the club Phil Neville lifts the Premiership title (the odds of that are something to behold, however bookies will make Everton favorites if this situation ever occurs). The Mayan calender which was the most accurate in the world for thousands of years ends in 2012, just as Moyes (manager of Everton) has assembled a squad that will just about reach its peak by then.
Oh yes. The only other major thing that happened in English football apart from the cancellations of a few seasons because of World War was the banning of English clubs from European Competitions. 1985 was the year. I suppose I don't need to tell you who the champions of England were.

Or think about Everton legends like Joe Max Moore and Brian McBride. :D

where in Iowa are you from?
If you're anywhere near Des Moines, check out a Menace game. Not quite MLS, but its still a good time.

picking a team was easy for me. My geordie cousin took me to st james park when we were teenagers. I stood on gallowgate and saw gazza, mirandinha, even glenn roeder playing.. heard chants of "sack mcfaul".. and ended up about 20 yards form where started after nufc scored. I was hooked even though liverpool crushed us with that pesky barnes guy. At least the next game I went to was a W in carling cup. I picked up newcastle as my team and my cousins picked up philadelphia teams as theirs when they visited, especially the phillies.
