View Full Version : Thoughts on 2 players

Jurica Vranjes and Daniel Jensen

I know both players are mainly used for replacement purpose (which is sensible given the strength of the Baumann/Frings/Borowski/Diego midfield), but I do not think they deserve to get so little attention.
I mean, they even pale in comparison with the attention given to players like Niemeyer, Owomoyela, Almeida/Rosenborg, Andreasen, all who often found themselves sitting on the bench as well, and (apart from Almeida/Rosenborg), imo less talented.

For some periods Vranjes and Jensen would find themselves in the starting XI for a string of games. However they would still be ignored.
For example, in this season, both players occupied the starting XI for a period of time, but there has barely been a mention of them in this forum, let alone criticism or praise.

This gives me a feeling that both these players are treated as lonely outcasts of the team, unloved by the fans and the Bremen trainers. This I do not think is fair, since imo both players are quality players:

Vranjes shows a good vision and understanding of the game. He has a wide range of passing skills, a deft touch, is a good teamwork member and his shoots and passes are accurate (OK, sometimes he tries to be clever with the execution and he fails miserably).
Jensen is a hard-working player who does his job admirably well and from time-to-time he treats us to some spectacular goals.

In particular I have sympathy for Vranjes. Prior to Bremen, he was always found sitting on the bench in Stuttgart and Leverkusen. I do not think he is really that bad after all.
I wonder what are your views on these two players?

Your feeling is partwise right. A part of the fans and the media see both
as not good enough for Werder, but in the team and
with the judgement by the coaches they have no problems.
Especially Vranjes is a player, that stays quiet,
when heīs on the bench, but does his best when put on pitch,
and doesnīt make the coach or the clubs any problems.
For some fans heīs too quiet and they think, he doesnīt
try to be a starter.

Thatīs karma for Jurica.
Some people only remember the failures
(i have to admit, sometimes he looks a but clumsy)
and when he plays good and the team wins
other players get the media interest.

Jensen is a hard-working player who does his job admirably well and from time-to-time he treats us to some spectacular goals.

Daniel Jensens problem is, that heīs not consistent in his performances
(sometimes he makes me crazy).
Tim Borowski is also inconsistent, but Borowski is more spectacular.
Itīs the same like with Vranjes,
you only see, what you want to see.

So IMO both, Jensen and Vranjes, are good substitutes,
but skillwise clearly behind the starters (ok, question mark behind Baumann
after his injury series). I am happy, that they could help us
past the injury weeks, but i am unsure, if Werder or the players
should extend the contracts.

Itīs no easy decision for the club, because especially Vranjes
fits characterwise into the team.

Also, all the injuries right now are giving the media and fans enough to talk about. There's not much room for headlines about Vranjes and Jensen. However, I think all Bremen fans do appreciate what they do for the team, especially in the last few weeks.

Vranjes played today whole 90 minutes for Croatia against Slovakia. Croatia win 3-0. He has played great , lots of accurate passes and he was great in defance. He was selected for player of the match :)!

I don't think Jensen will stay in the team past this year.

I'm not a fan of Vranjes, to me he's just a hard man.

both Vranjes and Jensen are very important players. At the moment Jensen is a rock solid starter. Which is why Baumann will have a hard time becoming a starter again.

Vranjes played well when he started but then Frings, Fritz and Borowski came back and he was on the bench. He also played well for the croatian national team recently. He seems to be on his way to Monaco though unless we have such a devastating injury wave again.

Vranjes to Monaco?

Yes, Jensen convinced me lately! I have always been a big critic of him and most of the time I was right. But now he shows us CONSISTENTLY what a great potential he has! :)
