Looks like Fox Soccer Channel is on cable and Setanta is satellite. What's your opinion on which gets the better games, or is it a tossup? (I don't care any about MLS)

First of all, the MLS is good, and I might make a suggestion to support it since it's your local league. ;)

That having been said, I think Setanta is best for the most matches, but FSC, as Doug said, has some of the best content otherwise. It's got SkySportsNews which I watch every day, plus the review shows (which I believe Setanta has as well), and other stuff too. They're both good for different reasons, but for solely games, I'd say Setanta.

Sounds like a good case for Setanta. That might make a good thread discussion.

As for MLS, I'd say it compares to the English Premier league as European Football compares to the NFL. MLS teams have mastered the art of passing back to the goalie.
I support my nearby high school team and university - that's my local league, not MLS.

DirecTV has the most: FSC, Setanta and Setanta Extra. With that combination you will never miss an Arsenal game that is on in the US. And just about every game is on.

Setanta quite often just shows the Sky Sports coverage of a game.

did anybody notice this new feature on bigsoccer that shows all the games being televised in the US. it's pretty useful because of it's convenience(sp?) but it's pretty much the same thing as other sites.

No I didn't notice that so thanks. But there's a big difference it seems w/ BS's TV listings... they're more like wikipedia in that they can be posted by anyone.

Even thought BuffaloSoldier seems to have done most of the posting at this point, I'm not sure he's acting as an editor the way that Epi tries to do in this thread or the way Oliver Tse definitely did on SoccerTV.

So, BS's new TV listings may be useful but a little bit of "at your own risk"? (I noticed at least one error/omission for a recent Euro match)

Has ESPN2 been showing the scores of all the other matches this year? I'd like to watch Rangers-Barca, but not if they will spoil the Arsenal-Slavia match.

Last gameday they were not showing scores at all on ESPN2. On ESPNClassic they were during the replay of their other game. I wouldnt trust them either way. Its sad I have a roll of painters tape by my tv for ESPN's CL showings.

As far as 'better' games, the only ones I really care about are Arsenal's. I do like the general programming on FSC better, because of Sky Sports News and the Fox Soccer Report, which are excellent highlight/news shows, as well as Fox Football Fone-In on Tuesday nights.

Setanta grabs plenty of quality matches, as well, but you have to budget $15 extra per month. That's $180 on the year; cheaper to go to the local pub if it's close by.

But with breakfast and a beer (or three), that's about $10 right there. I realized a while ago it's cheaper and easier (i barely have to drag myself out of bed) to get the setanta matches on broadband. Granted, if I knew anyone else who is as crazy about the arsenal as i am, i probably would go with them to the pub for the match.

Agreed about the costs of going to the pub. Also some pubs here in SF charge admission for the big matches. Still, despite having the DirecTV package with FSC, Setanta, etc, I still drag myself to the pub occasionally for the atmosphere. In fact, we're organizing a pub viewing this coming weekend for the Arsenal-Liverpool match.

Last match day i don't remember too much from the commentators, but don't watch the half time show. they do highlights from the other games then.

I'm really hoping that ESPN2 picks up the Sevilla game in november. I'm hoping its going to be as good as the last one!

Painters tape - that's hilarious and clever. I watch games on Setanta broadband and know of no pubs in my area (Columbia SC) that show soccer. I did a search on Setanta's site and the nearest pub is in Charlotte, 75 miles away.
By the way, anyone know how bad the injury is to Van Persie? Not much about it on Arsenal.com and I heard he's out for six weeks?
