How has he been for you guys thus far. I know he has 8 goals and leads the league along with Klose (great duo by the way), but how else has he been in regards to fitting in, passing the ball around, etc. For Fiorentina he did alot more than just score, although he scored his 20-30 goals each season, he also was key in setting up many goals for the others around him and he does alot more than most give him credit for. He is pretty skilled for a big man and I was surprised when I saw Bayern paid so little for him. Hopefully he can score 25 goals and also help Bayern deep into the UEFA cup if not win it all. It's a shame you guys aren't in the Champs League.
Want to hear what some of you Bayern fans think of Luca Toni thus far? Italy needs him 100% healthy for the upcoming Euro2008 Qualfiers as he is our main hitman up front!

I'll tell you what, 11 million seems like an incredible bargain. I still can't believe we paid that little for him. He has 10 goals already this season and has something like 4 assists so he does more than just scoring goals.
His brilliant partnership and link up with Klose aside, he connects well with the midfield, especially Ribery and always seems to find himself in the right place at the right time. He has an incredible instinct for goal and is always a threat, even if he has been rather quiet during the game.
Bayern fans are more than satisfied with Toni, not just because of his goals but also because he seems to have a good personality and is a great character in the locker room and training.

It goes without saying Germany isn't an easy place to score which makes 11 goals in 10 games pretty damn good. I wish Milan had a striker like him.

He was one of my favorite players in the World Cup in 2006, along with Franck Ribery, and Bayern signed them both. I am pretty sure that consitutes a wet-dream in some countries.
Luca Toni is incredibly smooth for a big-man, clinical in his finishing (aka Klinsmann like), and works his ass off in matches.
Not sure you could ask for a better player to be the target man.
Bayern's gain has been everyone else's loss.

Simply great so far! Loved what he's done so far. Pretty much agree, but I want him to step it up a notch even more. I want him to play like he played in game (forgot which BL game) where he got the ball from Bommel in the air and put it over the goalie. He simply everywhere that game and if he can go to that type of play, he'll be near unstopable! He been damn great in other matches no doubt, but in that game he was sooo amazing! If he can play like that with Klose staying in top form, they could score around 50-60 goals in the Bundesliga this season.

Luca Toni has been the biggest steal on the transfermarket this year. He is deadly in front of the goal, he is a valubale asset in giving assist or simply in keeping most of the time two defenders occupied, which makes him a constant threat up front, but contrary to his predecessor Makaay is taking part in the game , which makes it quite easy for the midfielders to support him. Additionally he seems to be a real good guy off the pitch, who is getting easily along with his teammates. To sum it up: So far he has been the perfect signing for Bayern and I doubt anything can change that in the next time

Germany year in, year out scores the MOST amount of goals by a European league, EVEN more than Italy, Spain, and England. i don't know if you want to clarify where you were going with that?

not only is that a great post, but i think you nailed it on the head. Bayern brought in class this summer, without the egos. it seems that the last ego we brought in here was Podolski. but he isn't a key part of the club so chemistry isn't really affected.

With the exception of Klose and arguably Ribery, he's been the player of the Bundesliga season so far.

We had the best summer signings by FAR. Simply class, heard about Drogba and 2 lazio (striker + RB) now though, Bayern just has to fuk it up by buying wrong players.

I personally don't like Drogba. and I think buying Luca Toni was better than buying 2 Italians, one is enough.

are you talking about rocchi and de silvestri? toni >>>> rocchi
de silvestri is class, and will be very good, but he is 19 iirc, and he would be behind sagnol when he gets back. he is one for the future, but i doubt if lazio lets him go, given his age and talent, the other italian clubs will let him go for cheap outside the peninsula. i still can't believe toni left for 7M pounds. what an absolute joke of a price.
toni, klose, ribery, and ze roberto have been a joy to watch (never really watched bayern before this season). I knew that toni and ribery were great, but i didn't know how good klose was tbh. he is truly world-class.

The only thing that I can think of is that in recent years the Bundesliga top scorer has had 20 to 25 goals. Other leagues often the top scorer has closer to 30.

The Bundesliga is more focused on team play, whereas Serie A is just feed this superstar player the ball. But that being said, Bundesliga GKs are better than Serie A, with the exception of Buffon

I thought letting Ze Roberto go before last season was a huge mistake. ballack aside, he was a huge part of the success that Bayern had between 2001 and 2006.

Amen brother!
I think if we talk of 'true' transfer steals, Ze Roberto coming back in the role he plays now was the most overlooked, unheralded one. As one coach already said of Hitzfeld..."it was a stroke of genius to put Ze Roberto in that role". He has taking the pressure off Von Bommel being a creator and helped to anchor the center of the pitch. The wing players can get forward without any worry in the center, and thus the formation's last piece of the puzzle was Ze Roberto.... and arguably the MOST important.
Who would have thought replacing Hargreaves would had been soo easy!!! :D

More like an upgrade if you ask me. ze Roberto has already shown us more skill and vision in 8 matches than Hargreaves has over his entire career.

luca toni is awesome, and i was shocked when i saw how little Bayern paid for him, i thought he was going to cost around 18 million (that was the number thrown around in the papers before, and remember the summer before when papers were quoting all sorts of ridiculous prices)
but quick question, is the European golden boot award only for regular season league results or does it count in European and Cup goals?
