I just wanted to let you all know--for those of you who are interested--that United for D.C. and D.C. United are suspending the on-line Man of the Match jersey auctions for the time being...and possibly for the rest of the season.
We appreciate the tremendous support thus far from all of the bidders and winners on the jerseys to date, and it's proved to be a very successful fundraiser for United for D.C. Unfortunately, though, outfitting the team comes first, and due to a few issues, we are having to suspend these auctions for the time being to ensure that we will have enough jerseys for competition purposes for the rest of this season.
We hope to still be able to offer opportunities for our fans to receive autographed game-worn attire and other items from the team. More information to follow.
Again, thanks to everyone! The Man of the Match on-line poll will still run after every game...just no on-line auction associated with it.
Thanks.
Catherine

Me too.
It's a shame such a good fund raiser will have to go away. Maybe they should just auction off the jersey's for their own coffers.

That is what happens when the same 3 or 4 guys play well enough to be Man-of-the-Match.

Or, on the "cup is half empty" side, not enough players are stepping up to earn the Man-of-the-Match title.

They could just auction off a Carroll, Stokes, or Warren jersey for us. Those guys have not gone through any yet!! :D

Does this also mean Ali can't do the "Hulk Hogan" on his shirt if it gets ripped during play again? :)

Wonder if this means we'll have to play shirts vs. skins for the rest of the season.

We have a new fundraiser starting soon.We made black mugs with the DCU logo on one side and the UforDC web address on the other, $25.
Info to order will be on the UfDC website soon but you can buy one on Sunday at the Meet the Team Day.

So will DC players not be conducting the traditional exchange of jerseys with the opposition team after matches now?
Poor Nicky... he was so looking forward to getting Big Bad Brad's jersey after the Blackburn game...

Wow! Scary to think that we might be in such a financial crunch that the team can't find thirty jerseys for a worthy cause?
If jerseys are out, maybe they can auction other things? Boots, training shirts, balls, etc.. There is obviously more to this story.

Philip Anschutz was getting tired of the whole "bidding" thing & just bought them all

Well, it might be worth noting that I called the Big Soccer Store a few weeks back to order a jersey and they said they didn't have any more and that Adidas told them they aren't making anything else for the rest of the year, and that means DC and Real Madrid and everything. Blows my mind, but I bet this has something to do with the auction's suspension.

Okay, I dearly want a DC United mug but TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS?????!!!!!!!
Are they kidding? It better be a hell of a mug.
I wish they would present it this way: For a $25 donation to United for DC you'll receive this lovely DCU logo mug.
Exact same difference but somehow much easier to swallow.

I don't think even Uncle Phil could outbid Douglas for the jerseys :)

Barb, that was how the e-mail was worded - K just shortened it.
Also, it is a tax write-off :)

See - this is the real reason for the end of the auctions. I have managed to buy every single jersey from the DC equipment room. From now on - players being subbed out will have to give their jersey to the player entering the field.
Sorry everyone :D
