PLEASE DO NOT SPAM THIS ABOUT HOW OTHER GAMES ARE BETTER THAN Fifa.
The game is going to be on the shelves in the US tomorrow and the following day in Canada and I thought that ppl could meet up and set matches or maybe even start some kind of competition among us Arsenal fans to play online. This is good timing too considering the international break will have us all starved from club football.
Also this could be a default fifa 08 thread so that we dont have several created. I have seen the Arsenal roster and am surprised by van den bergs inclusion are my comments....
so let the discussion begin and I be glad to play anyone once i pick up my copy tomorrow.

I've always preferred FIFA to the other franchises, but this will be the first FIFA game since 1998 that I will not buy.
They improved the shooting system in the game, but ruined just about everything else. The game is sluggish, players are unresponsive, passing has become impossible, the graphics have taken a step back from 07 (which was already a step back from 06) and manually switching players is a huge pain regardless which control scheme you use - it used to be so intuitive in other versions. On the other hand your fullbacks can now dribble from end to end just by running in a straight line and holding the sprint button. It's not more realistic - its just messed up, and a real drag to play.
Just bring back world cup 98 with updates graphics and I'll be happy.

Which system do you mean? Next-gen or current ones?

Xbox 360.
I downloaded the demo a few weeks ago. While the kickaround arcade mode thing has been improved quite a bit, the actual match play was very disappointing. I'm not going to purchase one of the FIFA competitors, as I don't like them much either, I'll just stick to playing 06 or 07 for now...or Halo 3! :p

I'm going to get 08 for PS2; I hear it's pretty good for the current-gen consoles.

thanks bluto, you are right. the point is to set up matches and to talk about the game not to say another game is better. you can talk about arsenal's roster, loanees etc but dont dis-fifa. if you want to discuse PES start another thread dont hijack this one.

I just wanted to point out that this is the first time I won't buy a FIFA game.
I have always preferred FIFA to the competition, but this year they really ruined it.
If my brother gets the game, or I get really bored I might pick it up - and score with my awesome full field runs!

I've got the PS2 version of FIFA 08 and I'm loving it. It flows more like a real football game does, especially in professional mode. I spent about 3 hours playing some of the challenge mode scenarios last night (gotta get that Arsenal 3rd kit) and had a blast with it.
I've heard a lot of next-gen players complain, which is exactly why I still won't buy PS3 or XBOX360 for a couple of years. Give me a price drop and more quality on the games.

Also for those who tried the FIFA 08 demo on the Xbox 360 Marketplace, the demo is actually in no way a representation of the final game. I've read and confirmed that the demo who's difficulty is set at semi-pro is in actuality worldclass difficulty and there have been tweaks to the game that make it a ton of fun to play. I'd give it a rental atleast if your not thinking of purchasing it.

i have mine copy now and have gotten the hang of it. i am a little disappointed they took van den berg off of arsenals roster with the patch update, yea he hasnt gotten any first team time but it would still be cool to have a youth player that is actually an arsenal player and not just created. oh yea my copy is for the pc so i dunno if anyone has it for pc but let me know if you want to play.

Haven't played video games in forever [last game I played was prob FIFA 05 for the Gamecube] went over to a friends house on Fri and he had the new Fifa for the 360 and after about 5 minutes, I was playing champagne football, one touch quick flicks and just freaking beautiful everywhere, and yet, I would never score and the bastard would score against the run of the play! It was like reliving last season! :(

I will take anyone on in 07 but sadly I have not mastered the art of scoring int his year's version. It is nearly impossible to penetrate the defense.
