View Full Version : Who would win?

I think fans of all teams do this, but United fans in particular seem to take the dagger when a former DCU player scores a goal - whether it's against United or not.

For those regretting moves that have been made (right or wrong, I'm not arguing that) .... I ask this ....

There are 10 players in MLS right now who are former United players that have scored a goal this season. So, if all other factors are equal, and somehow, through an odd quirk of science, Hudson coached both teams at once .... who do you think would win from these lineups?

DCU
---------------Rimando--------------------

--Namoff----Petke----Prideaux---Ivanov

----------------Nelsen----------------------

Olsen-------Stoitchkov-------Kovalenko-

--------Eskandarian-----Curtis------------

against ......

ExDCU

--------------Presthus----------------------

--Perez-----Agoos---Ziadie-------Denton

-----------------Marsch---------------------

---Armstrong-----------------------Mapp--

----Kamler-----------------------Albright--

-----------------Moreno---------------------

Even though he hasn't scored, you could play just 2 forwards and add Lisi to the midfield. Among non-goal scoring players, you would have Garlick, Kante, Llamosa, Talley, RWilliams to choose from on the bench. Since Pope has been hurt, I didn't include him. I picked Presthus over Garlick simply because his goals against average was lower.

I guess the point of it is, if you think the roster of Ex DCU goalscorers would win, I'm curious as to why, and who in the above lineup you would take to replace who in the DC lineup. ... Just kind of puts all the club's moves in perspective. In what way is up to your own opinion and preference.

Interesting idea Ed. If the laws of MLS did not apply, there is the team of ex-DC players that I would like to see match up against DC (note, I'm not focusing on scorers):

------------Presthus-----------
--Talley-Llamosa-Agoos-Perez--
------Williams---Marsch--------
--Kamler-----Lisi-------Mapp---
-----Albright------Moreno------

As subs you've got Ziadie, Denton, Armstrong, Garlick. (Note: isnt' Conteh coming back?) Perenially injured: Pope.

Would be interesting.

you're going to give them 12 players?

Pretty even match, with real team winning due to capitalizing on a late defensive breakdown. That hypothetical defense would be very vulnerable to wing play.

Interesting angle, but if MLS rules didn't exist, many roster-driven transactions may not have occurred and Sanneh could still be playing in the Red and Black. Maybe Harksey too.

Liked your dcunited.com article!

I say the current lineup. Moreno had given up here and would not put in the work needed to succeed. I consider Kamler and Albright to be abberitions to the score sheet this season. Kamler would be the first to admit he is not a goal scorer by trade. Albright has not established that he can score for more than a brief streak. Armstrong and Marsch both have scored about on pace for what they have shown. Mapp is still developing. Goose is on the downside. Perez, Ziadie and Denton are all servicable but I would not make any of the three first choice over either Namoff, Prideaux or Ivanov. Tommy has the size eveyone wishes Nicky had I consider that a wash as both are about equal in my book.

Neither, it would be a 0-0 tie.

Like I said...it would be interesting.

In that case, I'd take out Marsch.

Agoos and Ziadie in central defense? I'd take DC's current squad and maybe offer points. Goose I love but he's well on his way to losing his touch completely, except when it comes to horrendous accidental plays, where I gather he's still strong. And Ziadie is, what, 5'2" :) and has to be kept back to his side of the halfline with a whip and a chair (for a defender he spends less time defending than, oh, Roy Lassiter?).

Put Carlos inside for Ziadie and move Perch out to take over from Perez, and you might have a chance, defensively (you still need to find someone to start in place of Jaime, unless you dangle a couple of jelly donuts in the opposing goal).

Oh, and I disqualify Kante; how is he a "former United player"? Did he ever even practice with us?

Yes, I am one of the lucky few who actually saw this occur. :). Talked to him once, very nice kid.

They can settle it on PK's.

First team to not miss wins. ;)
