El técnico volvió a ser duro con Román. "Figura entre los cinco mejores jugadores del mundo en su puesto, pero renunció al Villarreal como antes había renunciado a la Selección", tiró el chileno. Y afirmó: "Si quieren estar por encima del equipo, sobran".

Manuel Pellegrini, en una entrevista que publica el diario español As, volvió a cargar contra Juan Román Riquelme, quien no volverá a jugar mientras el chileno dirija al Submarino Amarillo.

"Riquelme figura entre los cinco mejores jugadores del mundo en su puesto, pero no está comprometido con el club. Si las individualidades se ponen al servicio del equipo, fenomenal. Si quieren estar por encima, sobran", aseveró el Ingeniero.

El conflicto entre el director técnico y el mediocampista comenzó, según el periódico, cuando Riquelme pidió reintegrarse a los entrenamientos el 2 de enero y no el 29 de diciembre, y ante la negativa de Pellegrini el jugador le habría retirado la palabra.

"Renunció al Villarreal como antes había renunciado a la Selección. Y el primero que lo lamenta soy yo, porque es un jugador extraordinario, que prepara tres opciones buenas y luego elige la mejor. Pero Román se fue y el equipo siguió ganando", senteció el ex DT de River y San Lorenzo.

Pellegrini también se refirió al fútbol argentino. "Si en River perdés un partido no podés salir a la calle en una semana y si lo ganás, tampoco. Un gol cambia al presidente de la República. En Argentina y en Brasil están los mejores jugadores del mundo. El tridente Riquelme-Agüero-Messi sólo podrían igualarlo Kaká, Ronaldinho y el mejor Ronaldo".

Yes, it's a damn shame. This is a lose-lose situation. Villarreal with Riquelme was a beauty to watch, and he fits Pellegrini's system well.

I love Riquelme, he's one of the superstars in today's game. I don't get the bashers. But, I think he's also to blame on this. He also needs to show a little humility. If Roman was a little less stubborn, if he was willing to admit some wrong doing and allow the coach to save some face, I'm sure Pellegrini would love to have him back on the team.

But as you said, it's become a battle of egos, and el Chileno is not going to budge, because he knows the organization backs him one hundred percent.

And I understand why he has to be strong. As good as Roman is, the coach has to be in charge. If he shows weakness in dealing with Roman, he won't be able to control the other players, either.

Sucks though. I had become a huge fan of Villarreal when Riquelme was playing. Now they lost me.

i actually liked them more. i loved watching riquelme at villa, today i cant stand the guy but he was gold there. but i find it amazing that an organization who is like the banfield of argentina would be able to make such a strong decicion to a player worth so much and stick by it.

Ese articulo esta demasiado manoseado. Ninguna de las cosas que Pellegrini dijo se podrian considerar 'duras'. Incluso reconocio el gran nivel de Riquelme y alabo el futbol argentino.

SIN Riquelme, el Villarreal logro alcanzar el primer lugar de la Liga por primera vez en su historia... creo que tiene suficiente credito como para decir que al Villarreal tambien le va bien sin Riquelme.

Argentinos Juniors never won a title with Maradona. That doesn't mean he didn't make the team much better and more attractive to watch. And, (obviously to a lesser extent, as Roman is not Diego), Villareal was a better and more attractive team to watch with Riquelme as well.

Watching them play now, they've been able to get some results, but the magic is not there, it is obvious that they miss him. I wish they could solve their dispute, and he could get back on the field.

I agree that the title misrepresents the words of Pellegrini. That's the point I was trying to make with my first reply.

Si capte el sarcasmo en tu respuesta. :D Solamente queria refutar lo que apuntaba efer. Es obvio que Riquelme tiene condiciones que lo hacen especial, pero si uno se pone a analizar el punto de vista de Pellegrini, el tiene razon. A pesar de que Villarreal no es lo mismo sin Riquelme de todas maneras logra sacar buenos resultados con el equipo.

I find the critic quite balanced, and most of it spot on. Riquelme is a genius, but it's a shame he can be so stubborn. In any club in the world, the coach should rule. If you give that up because of a player, however good he is, then it all goes wrong.

A damn shame, though, because Villa was a perfect club for Roman, and vice versa...

you know im the worst to comment here, i hate riquelme and the ingeniero has a very strong place in my heart. but you have the give the guy credit its villareal were talking about. they are once again in the champions league and this time without the help of riquelme plus the guy has a great long term plan for his midfield with matias fernandez, and damian escudero and with the likes of ruben joinning up front i cant see villareal doing to bad in the next years.

On the contrary, I'm a big Riquelme fan, but I'd also give all the credit to Pellegrini for showing it's team before players and managing such good results. I don't know how good they will do in CL, but ending second of la Liga is already an extraordinary result.
