View Full Version : We must learn from the Chavs?

So the ManUre game looks like a game of our offence against their defence (although they're beginning to bang in the goals now?), but, after a hard fought win against Sunderland perhaps it's time to learn from Moronho? If we can keep picking up points against the lesser teams then the big games are all about not yielding ground. So, if we beat Bolton then 2 points from the Pool and ManUre games is all that matters. Wins would be nice, but, only a defeat really concedes ground. So lets be boring and keep these games tight?

If that means becoming the most unbecoming and frustrating team to watch in the prem, and deciding that once we hit one against a rival we go into a shell instead of seeing Eboue smack a late cross for an Henry header, a la Man Utd, or Cesc and Ade ripping into Spurs, or Ade stretching to win it at OT, or Gallas powering a header past Liverpool.......err...I'd rather not.
And what about if Man Utd win when we draw Pool...that's 2 points dropped, IMO. And likewise if we draw Man Utd and Pool win.
If I wanted to watch a boring side, I'd go support Chelsea.
Sorry if this all sounds harsh, I just don't see the point in it. Last thing I want is to play Mourinho football. That's not why I support Arsenal. Continue playing our brand of football and getting results.

Kill. Kill. Kill. You know what I want to see? Small children in ManUre and Loserpool shirts crying their little eyes out. Nothing would make me happier.;)

That Chelski seemingly beat the lessers then held for a draw with the powers was more the result of their styles and less a strategy on Mourinho's part. Chelski hasn't been one for a lot of goals, period, so it stands to reason their games against tougher opposition seemed like hard-fought matches designed to earn a draw and neutralize the opposition. a) That's not Arsenal's style and changing styles might strangle the team's efforts, b) the Gunners defense is better suited to a game that flows, meaning the offense is pressing and releiving the pressure.
I wouldn't be upset with winning the premiership through such results, but I would be upset if that's a scripted approach. Good clubs become great by playing to win every game.

FWIW, Mourinho was basically fired for not coaching like Wenger...

Stoopid! :p
Bottom line is we should try to win every game we play. Why wouldnt we? I f*cken hate teams that play for a draw or get one and then bunker down. I have never been taught to play that way and am fortunate enough to love and support a team that doesnt play that way either. As well, given our style of footy, i know on any day that we can absolutely demolish any team on this planet. Inter 1 - 5 Arsenal anyone? I was hoping we would hit double digits against Derby. I got extreme joy out of the looks on the Scum supporters faces as they left the stadium early. If you dont support the Arse then you can f*ck off for all i care.

Reminds me of a kid asking me what was in the back room of the AE I work at, the answer. Broken dreams and children's tears my lad.
Anyway, I'd perfer to stuff them all 3 or 4-nil. Playing for a draw or sitting on a lead are for Europe, in the league we kill, kill, and kill them all. IF and its a big if we do tie, on merit of the other team I could except that.

Correct but you completely missed the fundamental point.

Ahah, so you want Arsenal to win games in the same way that America 'won' Pearl Harbour then ? ;)

Not too sure he did. Arsenal under Wenger have only one real way of playing, and that's creative attacking play designed to make more goals. Attempting to bunker down to get draws to stop our rivals getting a march on us is not only against what Wenger stands for, it's not what most of the fans want and given it doesn't suit our style of play would more than likely cause us to lose more points than just 'going for it'

I will keep my attractive football, thanks.
That said, I recall twice last year that Arsenal seemed to try to bunker down up a goal - both against Chelsea. Both times Chelsea stormed back and if the first fixture was five minutes longer, I am certain we would have lost all three points.
Personnel wise, we just aren't that sort of team. There is not one grinder on the squad - we simply don't have the players (thank god!) that grind down an opponent with fouls at the half-line and diliatory tactics.
