so, we were talking with some folks @ the u.s. open cup game & were wondering why ya'll tailgate way the hell back where no one sees you?
why not set-up camp in the field across main street from the south entrance? you know, the field in front of best thai....
you'd get more visibility from the folks coming into the game & they'd probably join in the festivities.
oh! and confetti is a MUST at every home game. i'll donate $$ on your site. BTW: what did that cost you for the open cup?

The leadership of Inferno will be able to answer this a bit better, but the far away north side location is covered, convenient parking, tables, electricity (plugs) and has bathrooms nearby. It is just very convenient to relax and drink in, and is less about being seen by other fans (although y ou make a good point). However, this location is often reserved by youth leagues on game day, so then the pre-game location changes to the blue lot near the north entrance of the stadium. The south side of the stadium you mention and that parking lot area has a lot of construction right now. I drive in from the south, so this would be great for me, ideally. But moving ahead, the Inferno pre-game location will surely be changing with the opening of the new Irish bar on the south side. On a side note, the "pre-game experience" is something that I think FCD could work on a bit - building a pre-game area next to the stadium. I have to think the new Irish bar will be printing their own money off of Dallas supporters before and after every game. How can FCD just watch that money from their fans go into the pockets of Poppy's, Irish bar, Rudy's, etc etc...?

good point. it'd suck to sit out there & not have electricity, bathrooms, etc.
man, i'd love to have a FCD-owned pre-game hang-out. right now we head over to Best Thai about 1.5 hours B4 the game to eat, then walk right across the street.
the Irish bar you're talking about...is this "Legends"? someone on myspace is hyping the opening of "Legends" next February...supposedly a soccer bar coming to Frisco.

Here is the site for Lochrann's, the new Irish pub. Check this out - very "Trinity Hall" style. Right across from PHP. They will be making a lot of money.

Lochrann's will be brand new too, so it will be one of those new Irish places that is a cut above a Londoner style place. Although expect the $6 pint.

I know I am beating a dead horse, but I sure wish the Inferno could stand on the east side instead of the endline. It seems that there are a lot of people that would stand with them if they could see the game too.

Is it mandated that the Inferno be on the end line? You would think the FO would want the on the side...more money from higher ticket prices, better "attendance look" on tv, more noise created. Personally, I've stood near you guys the last few games and had a blast, so people just need to make it a priority to go over there.

I believe that it is a issue of saving money for the younger/poorer Infernites and an issue of being more free to do what they want on the endline with less people around them to disturb.
Those are both valid points, but I think the Cauldron (KC) has shown how much location can change the dynamics of a SG. They have went from a relatively small group to a really good looking group in one season after their move from the endline to the tv side of Arrowhead.
This discussion probably belongs in TIDN among the members rather than in here though.

The FO prefers behind the goal for a couple reasons, but probably the main one is that section 116 puts supporters close to the goal and it somewhat seperates the group from the West/East stands. Upside/downside is 116 contains the language, drinking, cursing, etc etc. The Inferno itself has voted to stay behind the goal several times when the matter has come up, citing tradition, convenience and ticket prices as the main reasons to stay in that location. Both groups, the FO and Inferno, both prefer the 116 location. There are drawbacks - supporters are not seen on tv that much, less noise, poor perspective on the games, etc. Moving to the East would mean some percentage of the families on the East side may complain, and the FO is sensitive to that. For tv games you see FCD doing ticket specials for the East side. Inferno likes being a bit seperated in the back too - and free to go wild. This topic is discussed every year though and it gets pretty close when it's voted on. The Cauldron in KC recently moved to the side - see them a lot more now during games. Many former Inferno-ites sit in 108 btw.

I don't dare deign to speak FOR the Inferno (or even Hoops Nation), but I suspect that 116 suits the purposes of a supporters section quite well. Standing on the seats is officially frowned upon, but apparently less so in 116 than say, Sideline East. More room to maneuver. Definitely more space to accomodate drummers. Convenient to the net to TP it to death. 45 minutes of encouragement for the FCD GK, 45 minutes of hell for the other GK. I can't imagine that the Barra Brava (sp?) at RFK has quite the same effect.
Of course, despite the annoyance on the boards, TFC has it exactly right where the entire stadium is the supporters section. But FCD fans in the "prawn sandwich" seats can get loud too, albeit seated most of the time.
BTW, sitting in different sections of the stadium has revealed unto me that the FC... DALLAS chant needs to happen much, much more. Anyone who is down on the sideline seats not getting loud enough will think differently once that chant hits its stride. If anyone is expecting an EPL-ish environment where the entire stadium breaks out in "O FCD, How Thee Dost Conqu'r O'er the Cold Grey Morn", good luck.
If anyone wants to get that ball rolling, here's a refresher on the lyrics:
At the corner of Frisco Street and Main,
There's an MLS team that's known to all;
Its specialty is winning,
And those Hoops play good ball;
Those Hoops are never beaten,
Except when they are; oft due to a bull-crap PK call
or questionable tactics that aren't carded by the blind-ass refs;
Less Big Macs, more exercise, linesman, you'll get that offsides call right some-day,
All through the game they'll fight;
Fight for the only colors:
Red and White.
Go right through for FCD,
Watch the points keep growing,
The Hoops are bound to win,
They're fighting with a vim!
Really? Vim..?? Does anyone use that word any-more;
Rah! Rah! Rah!
See their team is weakening,
We're going to win this game,
Fight! Fight! Rah! Team, Fight!
Victory for FCD!

great points on why the inferno is behind the goal. i guess their current seats are the best place for them to be their creative, wild & crazy selves ;)
i do hope the inferno can occasionally tailgate before the games in the field across Main Street from the southern entrance...just every once in a while ;)
INFERNO PEEPS: i really, really, really hope ya'll continue to throw the confetti. :D
BTW: props to Section 106 for turning on the noise these last few games. we've had folks in face paint, with signs, with flags, and LOUD VOICES to make our presence known. also, thanks to the english fellow who sat behind us & taught us all sorts of neat & wonderful new things to scream LOL!

Hey, Los Toros (the new supporters' group that's working out of the Sideline East stands) has started working with Lochrann's to be able to host our tailgates over on the South side of the stadium... We're actually going to be tailgating during the playoffs over by their future site.
For more information on what Los Toros are -- or to join us for the play-offs -- visit Los-Toros.com (http://www.los-toros.com/).
