I have U8/U9 parents telling me my club charges too much.
(Something I have nothing to do with, being a volunteer... Just listening to the complaints...)
We have 2x2hrs session per week and a game, 3x2h sessions if no game.
All year round, 12 months non stop.
Fees are $750 per year, NOT including tournies' fees and uniforms.
No scholarships or Financial Aid.
Our high expenses are due mainly to the fact that our head-coach (a former 1st division player in his country) is full-time and makes I think $3,000/mo. He is an awesome coach, and a terrible club manager (I always have to pick up his slack--plus he can't speak English!!).
Most expensive club in town is above $1,000/year now; another is around $500. Most clubs in the suburbs are usually cheaper, one (a pretty good one, actually) is free. Best club (as results) in the region charges $250/year.
What do you think?
Can you give me an idea of fees for your clubs?
Thanks!!

I'm in rural Maryland on the Eastern Shore (between the Chesapeake Bay and Delaware). Within my five county area, there is only one club that plays select soccer and they charge $500/year, which is all-inclusive of fees, tournaments and uniforms. I don't know what the coaches get. There are a couple of select teams scattered around, usually formed around the drive and ambition of a coach. I am attempting to do the same with a U11 girls team for the spring. The one coach in my county who has a U12 boys team charges nothing: he has about 4 four sponsors who pay for a season, one tourney, uniforms and kit bags. He doesn't get paid anything.

The answer is it all depends. Did they add the dreaded Academy word to the club? Then you could charge more and parents fell less ripped off.
Curious let's say you find a brand new talent just arriving into the country. Everyone thinks he is great, but the parents can not afford your fees would you still let him go?

I resent that.... but I also sympathise with it. My club's Academy program (which I am the director of), costs $225/per year, the exact same amount the rec plus/select kids are paying. We have paid professional trainers, offer two skills sessions and one team practice per week, and games on Sunday afternoons. I understand what you are saying about clubs and their glorified "Academies", but I would like to think we are doing it the right way. At this point, I have 170 kids in the program, so I am assuming the public thinks so too.
Goru, for the $750 to $1000 dollars your kids are paying, you could have them playing for any of the travel clubs in my area. Rec players pay around $50 to $60 tops around here per season, including indoor during the winter.

BigGuy I understand your frustration. This sounds like Brooklyn has moved to the suburbs. "Enroll your future college star in our Fall soccer classes. Hurry class space is limited and you don't want to miss out on that future college scholarship. Just $175 every 10 weeks! And a free clock radio to the first 25 paid enrollments!" :(
I grew up in the Midwest in the 50's and 60's. To us soccer was an East Coast sport like lacrosse. The major university that I attended did not have even a women's soccer team until the mid 90's over 20 years after I attended. There was no organized soccer at all while I was growing up. But kids still played soccer in the school playground during recess for free.

Too many people born in the US doing shiit with the club now. I liked it better in the old days. We were not looking to make any money off the player back then. Just wanted to put out good players and win hardware.
