Best NOW?
1) Oliver Kahn (Bayern Munchen/Germany)-- singlehandedly took Germany to 2002 WC Final
2) Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus/Italy)-- dominated Serie A all year, was spectacular in PK shootout in Champions League final
3) Brad Friedel (Blackburn Rovers/USA)--
Premiership Best XI, has been outstanding for last 18 months (Worthington Cup Final Man of the Match in 2002, World Cup, entire Premiership season)
4) Carlo Cudicini (Chelsea/Italy)-- can't make his national team, but just amazing for Chelsea. More athletic than Brad, but not as big.
5) this one's up for grabs. Contenders include Rustu Recber (Turkey, just moved to Barcelona); Didi (Brazilian, starred for Milan in Champions League); Iker Casillas (Real Madrid/Spain); a few others.
Best EVER?
1) Lev Yashin (Russia). Pele says so, so I'm not gonna argue.
2) Peter Schmeichel (Denmark). Euro 96 winners, Champions League & treble winners w/Man Utd 99...
3) Gordon Banks (England). Played until he was 40 or so. Stellar in several World Cups, and made That Save against Pele.
4) Sepp Maier (Germany).
5) your choice of Dino Zoff, Andonio Zubizaretta, and Kahn. I was never a big David Seaman fan...
