What are your guys thoughts on Bradley pursuing Guiseppe Rossi for the USMNT?
I know nothing about him, can anyone fill me in? What are the odds of him playing for us?

I think that Rossi would be a very good fit alongside Dempsey. I don't see any other forward we have that could fit well with Dempsey.
And we are short of forwards. Donovan is no longer a forward. Ching has his limitations. Jozy has a lot of potential but is a few years away. Johnson doesn't get it done except against weak Concacaf teams.
The ball is in Rossi's court. If he decides to see reality and realizes that watching WC2010 from the bench or on TV is not as much fun as 90 minutes on the pitch, then he thinks his decision over.
And down the road, does he have a chance for a Nike or Addidas contract if he is a bench warmer for Italia? I don't think so. In the end money talks, but in this case it may not. It seems that the kid is so brain-washed with all the Italia hoopla that he doesn't smell the money.

Have to agree. Why do postyers start these Rossi threads?
1. He has stated emphatically that he is playing for Italy. There is zero ambivalence here.
2. He is doing quite well in La Liga. We're not discussing a bench warmer, but a proven talent that the Italian Senior Nats team is well aware of.
3. He's already received caps with the U-21s.

I wonder if Bradley and Rossi crossed paths back in the day since both are from New Jersey. Bob was the coach a Princeton while Guissepi was a youth playing here in the States. It's wishful thinking on my part but I hope something there.

I wonder if Bradley and Rossi crossed paths back in the day since both are from New Jersey. Bob was the coach a Princeton while Guissepi was a youth playing here in the States. It's wishful thinking on my part but I hope something there. The younger Rossi was nine when Bradley left Princeton to begin his MLS journey and Rossi had already left for Italy when Bradley returned to New Jersey to coach the MetroStars.
So, unless Bradley was scouting 9-year olds to play at Princeton, I doubt he saw him play or had much to do with him.
However, the elder Rossi was a HS coach in New Jersey, and a successful one, too, and besides coaching at Princeton, Bradley was also very involved in youth soccer in Jersey so I think it's a safe bet to say that Bradley crossed paths with the elder Rossi a few times.
And, I'd bet big money that Bradley and the elder Rossi, not to mention Giuseppe, know a lot of the same people back in The Turnpike State so it's not hard to imagine a lot of back channel conversations going on.
Personally, I don't think Bradley would say much on the issue if there wasn't a pretty good dialogue taking place. Doesn't mean the kid is changing his mind, but I bet they are talking.
If there wasn't a dialogue going on, I think Bradley would have said something like "he's a great player and we'd love to have him but he's made it very clear he wants to play for Italy and we have to respect that" and that would have pretty much been it.

Didn't Arena say just that a while ago?
Anyway, I can see this latest "news" as stoking the fire of those that wish the kid would just give in and accept an invitation to play and train with the USMNT.
If Bradley says he saw the kid play in N.J., that's what it is. However
Rossi looked as a youth correlates or not with his play as a professional.

Do you suppose that if & when we come up with a quality striker for the nats that all this speculation will go away? We had a thread after the COPA with all sorts of banter about strikers. Sad fact is if we put EJ's speed with Ching's post up game and Twellman's effort we still wouldn't have a striker that could finish or even one that could fill McBride's shoes.
Come on Jozy..........or little Juan in LA or Darnell or Shawn somebody from some where. we neeeed you.

These pathetic Rossi threads multiply like anaerobic bacteria in the bogs of the Indiana Dunes .
"Quick, breaking news, RoboBob dreams Rossi is an electric sheep. So now the very bestest player in the whole of the history of Yankdom is gonna pair up with Wolff. Ain't that fantastic. He loves us, he really love us":D
In February, Rossi is cap-tied to Italy, then, finally, the lemmings will stop jumping off a cliff of their own madness.

The article definitely opened the door to the conversation......
That being said, I would have a hard time believing Szetela and/or Bradley and/or anyone else can talk him out of Italy. He looks like he is well on the path to being good enough for consideration. So the "you won't ever play for Italy" argument looks weaker and weaker.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a forward like Rossi would help the USMNT. So that discussion is kind of dumb.
I agree with others that for the most part, until I see him come into a US camp.....I am really not going to pay any attention to the kid. I wish him the best, but if he doesn't want to play for the US, I don't want him to the wear the jersey.

These threads keep popping up ibecause Italy had not yet capped him in an official senior match. Considering how good a prospect he is, it is kind of amazing that Italy hasn't done that.

Especially when Adu sends two past Keller the Gimp in the last 5 minutes for a 3-2 Ghana victory. [Kasey replacing Howard for the QF even though Tim had 300 scoreless minutes in the group round. "Keller was in net when we almost didn't lose to Ghana last time" carefully intoned the Princeton grad with the irontrap mind. "Plus he's now on his fourth WC. Gotta go with the past, just as my good friend Coach Ryan reminded me the other day"]. :D

No need to lay money down, it's true. Fernando is his father's name; high school soccer coach in Clifton, NJ for like forever. He would let a young Guiseppe kick the ball around with the varsity team and go through hard drills.
Anyway, Bradley was involved with youth soccer in the late eighties and a team called the Lancers who won consecutive U-17 National championships. The team was based out of Union, NJ.
When not playing club soccer with Bradley, guess where some of those players went to High School and who their coach was??.......I'd bet big money you dont know.;) So yes, there is history. No to mention childhood friend Danny.
All of it is all so tragic...

Well in my mind Rossi would be the best field player ever to don a USMNT jersey. I do understand why he would want to play for Italy, but he could make such a huge impact here. Too bad it has all probably gone to his head by now. I don't know if he would ever be able to give 100%... He doesn't want to be labeled as an American player. If he waits too long he might never get a chance to play for either country.
Would you rather start in a World Cup for a decent team or get sub minutes for a contender? I would always rather play more.
